With her warm smile and infectious laughter, Mildred leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and a joy that has touched everyone she encountered.
A Life Full of Love
Born on a crispy spring morning in 1924, Mildred was a product of her time, growing up during an era of significant change. Through it all, she embraced life with a heart full of warmth and grace, always ready to share her unwavering love for friends and family. She spent her years nurturing those around her, teaching her children the values of compassion, integrity, and hard work.
Family First
Though she faced the heart-wrenching loss of many loved ones—including her parents, husband, child, granddaughter, and siblings—Mildred’s spirit never wavered. She raised her children, Wayne and Glenda Jackson, alongside her late husband, Leonard Jackson, Sr., with a gentle yet determined hand. Her home was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories, where family gatherings blossomed with joy.
A Grandmother Like No Other
The role of matriarch suited Mildred perfectly. With every visit from her grandchildren, she created a haven that overflowed with warmth and affection. Grandson Mark Jackson, granddaughter Marsha Drake, as well as her great-grandchildren—Richard, Lauryn, Laila, Curtis, Chase, and great-great-granddaughter Kyliegh—will fondly remember the sweet moments shared under her roof.
A Heart of Gold
Known far and wide for her strength, resilience, and vibrant energy, Mildred shared stories filled with laughter and comfort, leaving an impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Friends and family rejoiced in her wisdom and quick wit, often reflecting on the little nuggets of life wisdom she would share at family gatherings.
A Passion for Life
Outside of being a family-oriented rock, Mildred had a few favorite pastimes. She loved curling up with her family to watch Family Feud hosted by Steve Harvey, chuckling at the playful banter. Mildred had a green thumb too, spending countless happy hours in her yard tending to her beautiful flowers, which reflected her vibrant personality.
Legacy of Love
The news of Mildred’s passing has left many in Chattanooga reflecting on their encounters with this extraordinary woman. The beautiful legacy of love she leaves behind is undeniable. Left to carry on her memory are her beloved son Ralph Jackson, daughter Glenda, dear sister Jewel Sommerville, along with numerous cherished nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation will be held for friends and family on Wednesday, November 6, at 11 a.m. at the Second Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral service will start at noon, with Rev. Ronald Harris serving as the eulogist, joined by Rev. Dr. Ernest L. Reid, Jr. and Rev. Dr. Christopher Jackson.
