Chattanooga Says Goodbye to Mitchell Gordon Fleming
Chattanooga, TN – The city is mourning the loss of a beloved resident, Mitchell Gordon Fleming, who passed away from natural causes at his home on October 6, 2024. Mitchell, age 62, was a man known for his gentle spirit and warm heart, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his family and friends.
A Chattanooga Native
Born in Chattanooga on December 9, 1961, Mitchell was a true local whose roots ran deep in the community. He was the son of Gordon and June Fleming, and throughout his childhood, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, playing outdoors with his loyal dog, Hunter, and spending quality time with his father, whether they were out shooting or just enjoying each other’s company.
Education was essential to Mitchell, and he attended Boyd Buchanan School. After graduating, he jumped right into the workforce, quickly becoming a valued employee at several notable companies in the area. He built a substantial career at the Chattanooga Bakery and later moved on to the Brock Candy Company. For over 23 years, Mitchell dedicated his time and skills to Chattem/Sanofi, where he was known for his hard work and commitment.
Family and Community
Mitchell’s family meant everything to him. He was preceded in death by his father and best friend, Gordon. He leaves behind a loving mother, June Card Fleming, and his sister, Joan Burroughs Seaman (Craig). He was also a cherished uncle to several nieces and nephews, including Travis (Heather), David (Lyndsi), and Graham Lane, as well as Mark (Heather) and Andy Burroughs. Additionally, he was a proud great-uncle to Bella Grace and Maddox Burroughs.
Family gatherings were filled with joy as Mitchell loved to engage in card games and share his passion for music. His gentle demeanor and infectious laughter made him a treasured companion, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him.
A Lasting Tribute
Friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate Mitchell’s life. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, October 11, at 11 a.m. at Card Cemetery in Soddy Daisy. This gathering serves as an opportunity for others to share their thoughts and fond memories of Mitchell, keeping his spirit alive within the community.
