Chattanooga Mourns the Loss of Respected Accountant, Josephine Gass Mahoney

Chattanooga, TN – The Chattanooga community is mourning the loss of respected and long-serving accountant, Josephine Gass Mahoney. Mrs. Mahoney passed away on February 27, 2024, aged 90, in the comfort of her Rossville, Georgia home.

Professional Contributions

Mahoney, born on April 19, 1933, in Chattanooga, to the late James Hamilton Gass and Vera Belle Long, gave many years of service to Ryder Trucks as an experienced accountant. Throughout her lengthy career, she contributed significantly to the corporate finance sector in Chattanooga, displaying an unwavering dedication and a fiercely astute mind for numbers.

Life and Legacy

In addition to her professional legacy, Mrs. Mahoney will be remembered for her strong character, warm heart, and vast wisdom. She leaves behind an enduring legacy, not just within the confines of business circles, but also within the wider Chattanooga community and is survived by family members who continue to cherish her memory.

She was predeceased by her husband, Albert C. Mahoney, whom she will join in eternal rest at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Earlier, she suffered the loss of her parents, James Hamilton Gass, and Vera Belle Long as well as her brother, James W. Gass, affectionately known as “Bill”.
