Chattanooga Saddened by Passing of Respected Community Member, Myra Yvonne Rivers

In Chattanooga, Tennessee, a beloved community member, Myra Yvonne Rivers, has recently passed away. Her warm spirit and kind heart touched many throughout her life, leaving an enduring legacy of compassion, empathy, and service.

Life of Service and Compassion

Myra was born on August 6, 1964, to parents Jonathan Peavy and Jo-Ann Taylor. Her early years were spent enriching Chattanooga Central High School, where she served in the JROTC, took part in the drill team, and sang in the chorus.

Her spiritual journey began in her teenage years when she gave her life to the Lord and became an active member of the St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church. Her love for music shined through as she sang in the youth choir during her younger years.

A Life Dedicated to Helping Others

As an adult, Myra dedicated herself to a profession of hospitality, working with various companies, most recently The Marriott Courtyard and The Westin hotels. Her career allowed her philanthropic nature to flourish, ensuring she was always ready to help anyone in need.

Passion for Arts and Family

Apart from her service-oriented career, Myra nurtured several other interests. Her hobbies spanned listening to music, crafting, thrift store shopping, writing poetry and journaling. Moreover, she enjoyed baking, with sweet potato pie being a favorite that she’d lovingly share with everyone around her. Similarly, old TV shows and Hallmark movies were among her preferred pastimes.

Myra’s inherent kind spirit didn’t just reside in her community involvement and professional life. It also shone brightly in her personal life, where she cherished time with her family, lavishing her grandchildren with love and attention. She was a pillar of support, always available when needed, genuinely touching many lives.

Surviving Family

While her life was rich with service and love, it was not without sorrow. Before her passing, she lost her son, Nicholas Peavy, her grandmother, Flister Taylor, and father, Jonathan Peavy.

Her parents, sisters, brother, daughter, granddaughter, grandson, niece, nephew, and an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends survive her. These included her dear friend, John Rivers, all left to carry forward her legacy.
