Chattanooga is coming together to remember a remarkable man, Larry Sanford Marshall, who passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on May 16, 1940, in the heart of Chattanooga, Larry was a shining light in the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and artistic flair.
After graduating from Kirkman Technical High School, Larry answered the call of duty and proudly served in the United States Navy for six years. His commitment to his country laid a firm foundation for his journey ahead. Upon completion of his military service, Larry pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the widely respected Texas A&M University. This accomplishment was just the beginning of a rewarding professional career.
For many years, Larry dedicated himself to the world of technology, working in the IT Department at ATT until his retirement. His influential role at the company was marked by respect and admiration from colleagues. Larry embraced every opportunity to learn and grow, and his intelligence shone brightly in his everyday life.
Outside of work, Larry was known for his vibrant passion for ballroom dancing. He not only enjoyed dancing but also shared his love for the art by teaching it to others. Many local dance enthusiasts knew him for his grace on the dance floor, charming everyone with his moves and dedication. Whether it was a waltz or a salsa, Larry had a knack for making dancing a joyous experience and bringing communities together.
In addition to his dancing skills, Larry also had a keen interest in the stock market. He spent countless hours analyzing trends and seeking out investment opportunities. His enthusiasm for finance kept him engaged and informed about the constantly changing economic landscape.
Sadly, Larry was preceded in death by several family members, including his father, Orville Travis Marshall, Sr., and mother, Calla Lee Bouldin Marshall. He also mourned the loss of his brothers, Orville Travis Marshall Jr. and Ronald Lee Marshall, Sr., as well as beloved aunts and a great-nephew. Despite these losses, Larry’s spirit continued to shine, and he is cherished by his surviving family.
Larry is survived by his devoted nephews: Orville Travis Marshall III and Ronald Lee Marshall, Jr., and a loving flock of nieces: Kim Marshall Brosnan, Staci Marshall Workman, and Brandy Marshall Anderson. Along with numerous great-nephews and great-nieces, including the likes of Orville Travis Marshall IV, Thomas Brosnan, Jr., and Justin Marshall, Larry’s family tree continues to flourish.
