Born in Knoxville on January 30, 1960, Pete’s life was a tapestry of dedication, compassion, and achievement. After moving to Chattanooga during his childhood, he quickly became a cherished member of the community.

Pete was married for 36 wonderful years to JoEllen and was a proud father to three daughters: Miranda, Laura “Michelle,” and Liz. His commitment to education was evident when he graduated from Chattanooga City High School at 16 and continued his studies at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. There, he made a mark as president of his fraternity and the Student Government Association.

After graduating from the ETSU Quillen College of Medicine in 1986, Pete provided exceptional care as a pediatric surgeon at Erlanger Hospital for 26 years. His reputation was solidified by his dedication to fighting for children and supporting grieving families. Pete touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues, earning the love and respect of everyone around him.

While he has now joined his loved ones who predeceased him, including his father Joseph Earl Kelley Sr., mother Susan Kelley, and sister Katye Kelley, Pete leaves behind a beautiful legacy. His wife JoEllen and daughters, along with their families, carry on his spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pete’s honor are encouraged for Project Access, which provides crucial healthcare services to low-income and uninsured residents in the Chattanooga area.

As we say goodbye to these remarkable individuals, let us remember the joy they brought and the lives they touched. Their stories serve as a reminder of the strength and love that reside within our Chattanooga community.
