CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — In what seems like a scene fresh out of a crime drama, Chattanooga Police recently apprehended a suspect linked to a robbery shooting that took place on Brainerd Road. The incident occurred on September 14, 2024, and left the community abuzz with concern and curiosity.
On that fateful evening, at precisely 7:07 PM, officers received a call reporting a robbery. The scene was set at the 5600 block of Brainerd Road, where a victim had just pulled into the parking lot of a local Chili’s restaurant. It was here that the suspect, later identified as Dedrrick Middlebrooks, approached the victim’s vehicle and stole a staggering $700.
Taking off in a white Honda, Middlebrooks made a quick getaway, but he didn’t count on the tenacity of the victim, who decided to follow him in another vehicle. As the situation escalated, witnesses began to realize that something was amiss.
Before the police could reach the scene, the chase had already taken a dangerous turn. The victim, understandably flustered after being robbed, continued to follow Middlebrooks. A witness in the victim’s vehicle quickly dialed 911, providing crucial details about Middlebrooks’s car as they sped through the neighborhoods. The chase ultimately led them to the 2100 block of South Lyerly Street.
It was during this hurried escape that Middlebrooks allegedly made a dangerous move—he fired a shot at the victim as he exited his vehicle. Fortunately, the victim’s injuries were non-life-threatening, but he was still taken to a local hospital as a precaution. It’s a sobering reminder of the dangers that can surface so quickly in our everyday lives.
Thanks to the quick actions of the Chattanooga Police Department, the investigation quickly gained traction. The department’s Robbery Unit was able to connect with the victim and gather an impressive amount of evidence. They obtained Middlebrooks’ phone number during their inquiry, as well as the license plate number from his getaway vehicle, building a solid case against him.
On September 25, just a little over a week after the incident unfolded, CPD made their move and arrested Middlebrooks, a 21-year-old man, who is now being held at the Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center. He faces serious charges, including Attempted First Degree Murder, Felony Reckless Endangerment, and a firearm violation. These kinds of charges reveal the gravity of his actions and the potential repercussions he may face.
The news of the arrest has brought a sigh of relief to the local community as residents grapple with the reality that such incidents can occur just around the corner. It highlights the importance of vigilance and community spirit, especially when ordinary people show bravery in the face of danger.
In these times, it’s crucial for everyone to stay aware of their surroundings and look out for one another. As we await further developments in this case, let’s remember how our community can stand together, ensuring that safety and security are paramount in our beloved Chattanooga.
Keep in touch with local happenings and updates. There’s always something going on in the community, and together we can tackle the challenges ahead. Stay safe, Chattanooga!
