Chattanooga Bids Farewell to a Cherished Soul: Jacquelyn Sue “Jackie” Garrison

Chattanooga, Tennessee, is taking a moment to reflect on the life of a truly remarkable woman, Jacquelyn Sue “Jackie” Garrison, who left this world on January 18, 2025. Born on March 2, 1932, in Knoxville, Tennessee, Jackie was adored by family and friends alike. Her story is one of love, adventure, and a devout commitment to her community, making her departure a profound loss for all who knew her.

A Life Well-Lived

Jackie, a daughter of the late Harry and Maud (Johnson) White, was known for her vibrant personality and her adventurous spirit. Throughout her life, she traveled extensively around the globe, creating wonderful memories and rich experiences. Her sense of adventure was matched only by her love for family, especially her husband, Arlin Buel Garrison. They shared a blissful marriage for 43 years, creating a legacy of love that will continue through their children and grandchildren.

Community Involvement

Serving as an unwavering pillar of support in her community, Jackie was a cherished member of St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church. She dedicated herself to the church choir and engaged in the bell choir, bringing joy to both services and her fellow congregants. This role was more than just a commitment; it was a reflection of her passion for music and togetherness.

A Competitive Spirit

Jackie’s interests ranged from her knack for playing bridge, where she was well-respected for her skills, to spending leisure moments trying her hand at Mahjong. Though she was a master strategist in bridge, the tables turned when it came to Mahjong, where she often found herself on the losing end. But, her spirit was never dampened by a game; instead, she embraced these moments with laughter and camaraderie.

A Proud Patriot

As a member of the Daughters of The American Revolution, Jackie exhibited her love for her country and actively participated in patriotic events. Her pride in her heritage was evident, and she was passionate about sharing this with her family, including her two daughters, Kathy Garrison Ahern and Patricia Garrison. The family bond forged through shared values and traditions will undoubtedly carry on in her memory.

Family and Legacy

Jackie’s family continued to grow alongside her, with a beloved granddaughter, Emily Goodson, who brought immense joy to her life. In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by her brother, Donald H. White, along with numerous nieces and nephews who cherish the memories they created together.

Final Goodbye and Memorial Service

The community of Chattanooga is invited to pay their respects during a memorial service scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church, located at 7547 E. Brainerd Road. This ceremony will celebrate Jackie’s life, her legacy, and the impact she had on everyone around her.

While the family will hold a private graveside service at Chattanooga National Cemetery, they invite everyone to share their tributes and fond memories on the online obituary. These heartfelt remembrances will be invaluable to the family as they navigate this difficult time.
