In Chattanooga and surrounding areas, restaurant health inspections are an integral part of the dining scene. With particular focus on the Hamilton County, Catoosa County, and Walker County health departments, we bring you an analysis of some of the best and worst restaurant inspection reports for the week, ending on July 9, 2024.
The health departments inspect restaurants twice a year and grade them on a 100-point scale. Restaurants scoring below 70 require corrective action and are subject to re-inspection until they meet the critical standards. It’s important to understand the inspection scores shared in this report are initial grades and don’t reflect on-the-spot changes that sometimes lead to upward adjustments.
Of the many eateries inspected this week, no restaurant reported any failures. The week’s lowest score of 78, however, was bagged by Lemongrass Thai Restaurant located on Cummings Highway, closely followed by Las Margaritas on Hixson Pike with a score of 80. New China Buffet & Grill, also on Cummings Highway, was next in line, garnering a score of 86.
We also saw scores in the 90s with several popular eateries such as Bantam & Biddy on Market Street, and Rembrandt’s Coffee House on High Street each scoring a respectable 93 alongside several others including Buffalo Wild Wings and Papa John’s. Moxy’s main kitchen on King Street just edged above with a score of 94. Armando’s/Lando’s on Highway 58, the Chambliss Center for Children on Gillespie Road and the Uncommon Coffee Bar on Reggie White Boulevard all kept to an impressive 95.
Raising the food safety bar even higher, we witnessed quite a few restaurants breach the 95-mark threshold. Eateries like Taco Bell on Broad Street and Arby’s on Hixson Pike tallied an impressive score of 98 each, while Antojitos Las Gemelas on Ringgold Road stood at a near-flawless 99.
Carolina Rib Doctor on Marlin Road was among the group of restaurants that earned the coveted perfect score of 100. Other establishments joining this elite group included Lupi’s Pizza Pies on Hixson Pike, the famed McDonald’s on Dayton Blvd, and Flame and Flavor, a mobile unit on Whittaker Avenue.
Food safety, cleanliness, and hygiene are hallmarks of a good food establishment, and these scores serve as an affirmation of these vital aspects in the restaurant industry. Congratulations to those restaurants who maintained an enviable score and a gentle nudge of encouragement to those finishing on the lower spectrum – there’s always room for improvement. Diners can put their trust in the grading system and enjoy their restaurant experiences knowing that the establishment has been vetically processed through health inspections by the respective county health departments.
