Chattanooga's Restaurant Inspection Scores Reveal Successes and Areas for Improvement

Chattanooga’s Restaurant Inspection Scores are In!

Hello, Chattanooga! It’s that time of year again when we check in on how our beloved local eateries are holding up when it comes to food safety and health regulations. Every six months, health departments from Hamilton, Catoosa, and Walker Counties roll up their sleeves to inspect food service establishments, grading them on a scale from 0 to 100. Let’s dive right into the latest findings!

Inspection Highlights for the Week Ending December 17

This week, many restaurants participated in inspections, and the scores are telling a story of both success and areas for improvement. Some establishments are soaring high, while others are facing a few challenges. Here’s a closer look at some of the scores:

Below 85 – Oops! Room for Improvement

  • El Rey Taqueria scored 82
  • Located at 6219 Lee Highway, Suite 7, this cozy taqueria had several critical issues. They were missing hand soap in the employee restroom, and the storage practices of raw food above ready-to-eat items raised some eyebrows. You would want your meals prepared safely, right? The inspectors noted multiple insects in prep areas, which is definitely a no-no!

  • Kim Kitchen got a score of 87
  • This Chinese gem at 5731 Highway 153, Suite 109 had some sanitation shortcomings with their triple sink lacking sanitizer. Those sprouts need to be kept cool on ice, and food boxes should never rest on the floor!

  • Plaza Jalisco Mexican Grill achieved a score of 90
  • A little higher on the scale, Plaza Jalisco, found at 7001 Middle Valley Road, Suite H, had uncovered food in the cooler and some neglected dated items, but they are certainly on the right track!

Good Scores—Kitchen Consistency

Businesses in the 90s range are happier but still need to focus on sharpening their practices:

  • Memo’s – 91
  • Taco Town – 93
  • Valleybrook Grill – 93
  • Humidor Cigar Bar & Lounge – 94
  • 1885 Grill – 95
  • Boccaccia Ristorante Italiano – 95

Scoring a Bullseye – 95 and Above

We have several spots that are still keeping it top-notch:

  • Waffle House – 95
  • Bojangles – 96
  • Hardee’s – 96
  • Domino’s – 98
  • Fuji Steak & Sushi – 98

Perfect Scores: 100 Club!

Let’s give a round of applause to the establishments that achieved a perfect score of 100! These pros are nailing their health standards:

  • Anomaly by Oddstory (Mobile)
  • The Blooming Pot
  • Five Guys
  • Texas Roadhouse

Making the cut for pristine cleanliness, these locales show everyone how it’s done!
