Chattanooga, a city known for its enchanting views and tight-knit community, is heartbroken to announce the passing of one of its cherished residents, Robertine “Bit” Roberts Sokohl, who left us at the remarkable age of 98 on March 28, 2025.
Bit was a proud native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and her life was filled with memorable moments, vibrant friendships, and a passion for family. She attended the prestigious Girls Preparatory School (GPS) before continuing her education at the University of Chattanooga for two years. Bit’s academic journey eventually led her to the University of North Carolina, where she met *the love of her life*, Jack Sokohl, who later became her husband.
Bit and Jack tied the knot and spent 64 wonderful years together, supporting one another through life’s ups and downs. After living in Chattanooga for a good part of their lives, the couple moved to Richmond, Virginia, in 1973, where they created countless memories together. Sadly, after Jack’s passing in Richmond, Bit held onto those memories tightly and continued to radiate love and warmth to her family.
Bit and Jack had a beautiful vision of having a larger family, which blossomed into a loving household filled with laughter and joy. They are survived by their four children: Jack Sokohl, who is married to Dana; Ray Sokohl, who is married to Donna Byrd; Joe Sokohl; and Robertine Manno, who is married to Dave. Bit’s legacy continues with her wonderful grandchildren: John, Chris, Alex, Steven, Joe, Emily, Ally, and Laura. The family also has the pleasure of knowing six adorable great-grandchildren, who brought even more joy into Bit’s life.
Throughout her life, Bit was not just dedicated to her family, but she was also an accomplished professional. Home life wasn’t her only focus; Bit skillfully crafted training film strips and worked at the UTC placement office, helping students find their paths. Upon moving to Virginia, her career took another great stride as she became a recruiter for Fortune 100 companies, showcasing her incredible work ethic and dedication to helping others succeed.
In her later years, Bit made Morning Pointe assisted living in Hixson, Tennessee, her home. It was there that she formed new friendships and continued to enrich her life through connection with others. She was as vibrant and full of life as she ever was, always bringing smiles to those around her.
As we mourn the passing of Bit, a private celebration of life is set to occur at a later date, allowing family and friends to remember and honor this remarkable woman’s legacy. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to pay tribute to Bit are encouraged to make donations to Morning Pointe of Hixson’s Butterfly Garden, contributing to a lasting remembrance at 5501 Old Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN 37343.
Arrangements for Bit’s funeral have been entrusted to Hamilton Funeral Home and Cremation Service, located at 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN 37343, with a contact number of 423-531-3975. She may be gone, but Bit will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Chattanooga has lost a truly wonderful soul, but her kindness, love, and memories will continue to resonate within the community she adored.
