Bridge Community Sports Event

Chattanooga’s Olgiati Bridge Transforms into SportSpot

Get ready for a dynamic new way to experience sports in Chattanooga. The River City Co. is launching an exciting pop-up sports series under the Olgiati Bridge, named SportSpot, opening on Friday, Sept. 6. This initiative aims to engage the community in the evolving “Evolving our Riverfront Parks” project and gather feedback on potential future developments.

A Community-Driven Initiative

According to River City Co. President and CEO Emily Mack, “The next step in the planning process is to create design documents, so it is very important for us to hear more from the community on how spaces could function in the future.” The temporary recreation space will be open daily from 9 a.m. to sunset through Sunday, Oct. 20, offering a variety of free sports activities for residents.

Planned Activities and Features

SportSpot will feature:

  • Two pickleball courts in September (equipment provided)
  • Two basketball courts in October (equipment provided)
  • A pump track by White Oak Bicycle Co-Op (bring your own bike)
  • A roller rink by Dazey Skate Co. (bring your own skates or attend a workshop for free skate rentals)

The area will also be decorated with a bright mural and plants to help the community visualize the potential future look of the space.

Important Information for Participants

Before heading out to SportSpot, here are some essential need-to-know rules:

  • All activities require waivers to be signed by participants, with guardians signing for those under 18.
  • Pets and smoking are not allowed on the premises.
  • Bikes are only permitted on the pump track.

Additionally, the experience will undergo a two-week closure from Sunday, Sept. 22 through Thursday, Oct. 3. The schedule may also change as new events are added, so keep an eye out for updates, including senior days, inclusive play days, and other specialized programming.
