The incident, which took place on November 4, 2024, unfolded when Woods confronted his sister about a $17,000 settlement she was holding for him. The altercation escalated into violent attacks while children were nearby. Woods is now facing serious charges and has been transferred to Hamilton County Jail.
In an unsettling incident that shook the Chattanooga community, a 50-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a brutal attack on his sister at a local daycare. The stabbing took place on November 4, 2024, at the Creative Learning Center, a place known for its nurturing environment for children. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a day filled with learning and fun turned into a scene of horror.
According to authorities, the accused, Reginald Dewayne Woods, entered the daycare where his sister was employed. Shocking details revealed that Woods confronted his sister in an office, demanding money from her. Reports suggest that Woods had recently received a $17,000 settlement from a car accident, which his sister had been keeping for him. This conversation quickly escalated into violence.
Witnesses reported hearing the victim crying out that she didn’t have Woods’ money and that she had already given him everything she had. What happened next is absolutely heart-wrenching: Woods pulled out a knife and reportedly stabbed his sister eight times in critical areas, including the chest and head. To make matters worse, this frightening act occurred while several young children were nearby, blissfully playing in the backyard.
It has been confirmed that an employee had accidentally left the kitchen door of the daycare unlocked, which allowed Woods access to the building while the children entertained themselves outside. This lapse in security is now under scrutiny, as it raises questions about the safety protocols in place to protect children and staff in such facilities.
The chaos didn’t end there. After the stabbing, witnesses saw Woods discard the knife in a neighboring backyard before fleeing the scene in his SUV. Meanwhile, the victim was rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention. Once stable, she provided investigators with the grim details of the attack, which has left the community in disbelief.
Law enforcement quickly acted on the information provided by the victim. Woods was initially detained at the Catoosa County Jail but has since been transferred to the Hamilton County Jail. He faces serious charges, including attempted first-degree murder and aggravated burglary. Currently, he is being held on a whopping $300,000 bond while awaiting his court appearance scheduled for May 5, 2025.
In a turn of events that could play a critical role in the trial, authorities managed to recover the knife allegedly used in the attack. This evidence, along with witness testimonies, will undoubtedly shape the course of this astounding case.
As the investigation continues, the Chattanooga community rallies together, grateful for the swift actions of those who intervened and for the local authorities who promptly apprehended Woods. There’s a sense of relief that the situation, while tragic, could have been much worse, especially with children in proximity during the alarming events.
The Creative Learning Center, known for creating a safe space for children to learn and grow, is now faced with challenges and questions. This horrific chapter will weigh heavily on them and everyone involved as they navigate through the aftermath of this frightening incident.
The hope is to see justice served, healing take place, and most importantly, to ensure the safety of all children and staff in daycare settings as this community looks toward the future.
