Chattanooga Students Gear Up for National Voter Registration Day
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Students at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) are getting ready to make their voices heard as they participate in National Voter Registration Day. This event is all about making sure that young voters have the tools they need to register and engage in the voting process! With significant collaboration from multiple organizations aiming to boost voter registration numbers, it promises to be an insightful day on campus.
Setting up for Success
From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on registration day, a variety of booths will be conveniently located throughout campus, including sites at Chamberlain Field, Guerry Honors College, the University Center, and Heritage Plaza. Not only will students have the opportunity to register, but they will also receive essential information about their voting rights and how to get involved in nonpartisan civic engagement.

Michelle, a UTC student and a drive organizer, emphasized the importance of reaching out to fellow students. “A lot of students actually don’t know that they will have to go back to whatever county they are registered in to vote. I actually spoke with several individuals who weren’t even aware that an election was coming up,” she said. “Some were asking, *What are we voting for?* Believe it or not!”
Through events like this, the organizers hope to raise awareness about the election process and ensure that students understand the need for voter registration. “It’s crucial to keep people informed about the upcoming elections because many might not realize the impact their votes can have,” Michelle added.

The Tennessee Democracy Network is at the forefront, championing this initiative. Kayla Jones, the president of the organization, shared her enthusiasm for making the entire voter registration experience simple and accessible for students at UTC. “National Voter Registration Day is about building a stronger democracy, and that starts with empowering young people to use their vote and participate,” said Jones.
