Chattanooga, get ready for some exciting days ahead! With a fantastic mix of events, the community is gearing up for a jam-packed week of fun starting October 17th. Local students, families, and visitors are welcome to take part in a slew of activities perfect for the crisp autumn days!

Sunny Skies and Perfect Weather

First things first, let’s talk about the weather! On October 9th, mother nature blesses us with abundant sunshine and highs nearing 80°F. It’s perfect weather for outdoor activities! Even as the sun sets, temperatures will cool down to around 55°F, so don’t forget your favorite sweater for those evening events. Expect gentle winds from the north-northeast at about 5 to 10 mph, making it a delightful day to be out and about in our beautiful city.

Homecoming Sneak Peek!

Mark your calendars for October 17th! The 2024 Homecoming festivities kick off with exciting info tables set up on Vine Street and Oak Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Here, students will get a sneak peek of all the homecoming events happening from October 19th to 26th. Stop by for free swag and delicious fairy-tale cupcakes while supplies last. It’s a great way to get everyone pumped up for the week ahead!

And if you’re around Lupton 118 at that same time, swing by for the Soda Floats & Seeing Yourself In Leadership: Dessert and Dialogue Series hosted by the Center for Women and Gender Equality. From 12:30 to 2 p.m., sip tasty soda floats while engaging in meaningful conversations about the impact of seeing diverse leadership figures.

Spook-tacular Fun at the Zoo

October wouldn’t be complete without some Halloween fun, and the Chattanooga Zoo is here to help! The annual Boo in the Zoo events takes place on several evenings: October 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, and 26, running from 4 to 8 p.m.. Families can delight in trick-or-treat stations, a bounce house, a scavenger hunt, and an exciting costume show among spooky decorations!

And what’s Halloween without some characters? Magic Lamp Entertainment will bring joy to the zoo with beloved characters ready to meet the little ones. Tickets are a steal at just $11 for zoo members and $16 for non-members. Be sure to check out the Chattanooga Zoo’s website to snag your tickets!

Get Ready for Mystery Dinner

If you’re in the mood for something a bit more thrilling, don’t miss out on The Dinner Detective, happening on October 12th from 6 to 9 p.m. at the DoubleTree Chattanooga Hamilton Place. It’s an interactive comedy murder mystery, where you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner, including fresh mixed green salad and herb-roasted chicken while simultaneously solving a crime based on true events! It’s all about fun and intrigue, and maybe you’ll find you’re the prime suspect!

Two ticket options are available: the General Admission ticket at $60.99 plus tax, which includes everything mentioned, and the Suspect Package at $21.99 plus tax, allowing one group member to become part of the show. Don’t wait too long; this is a popular event!

Learn the Basics of Movie Making

Ever dreamt of diving into the film industry? On October 17th, from 4 to 5 p.m., head over to the UTC Library for an introductory Adobe Premiere Pro course. Here you’ll get to learn the basics behind movie-making, from setting up projects to manipulating clips and more. It’s a unique opportunity to see how your favorite shows and movies come to life!
