Chattanooga – This week, Chattanooga volleyball celebrated the academic achievements of three of its student-athletes: Caiti Barthel, Paige Gallentine, and Elaine Redman. Each earned a prestigious spot on the CSC Academic All-District Team, an honor announced by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday.
The three recognized athletes include:
The CSC Academic All-District distinction is reserved for student-athletes who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher. Additionally, they must compete in at least 90 percent of their team’s matches or start in a minimum of 66 percent of the matches throughout the year.
Caiti Barthel achieved this accolade for the first time in her career after participating in 31 matches during the 2024 season. Barthel also made three starts as a defensive specialist and has frequently been recognized on UTC’s Dean’s List and AD Honor Roll.
Paige Gallentine made a significant impact during the season by appearing in and starting all 32 matches for the Mocs. She played as UTC’s libero, earning recognition as a Second Team All-Southern Conference player. Gallentine has consistently demonstrated her academic prowess, already receiving multiple awards for her performance in school and now pursuing a master’s degree.
Elaine Redman not only excelled on the court but also in her studies. Having received her second Academic All-District honor, Redman started all 32 matches this season and held an impressive 4.0 GPA in the fall. She has also set a program record, winning a total of eight Southern Conference Player of the Week awards in her career.
The selection to the 2024 Academic All-District Women’s Volleyball Team highlights the dedication and hard work that student-athletes put into both their sports and academics. This recognition not only inspires other players but also showcases the balance between athletics and education, a crucial aspect of being a student-athlete.
The Academic All-District honorees are now eligible for consideration to advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. The First, Second, and Third-Team Academic All-America honorees for women’s volleyball will be announced on January 14, 2025.
For the latest updates on Chattanooga volleyball, fans can follow the program on social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram. This recognition serves not only to honor the individual achievements of Barthel, Gallentine, and Redman but also to highlight the strong athletic and academic culture present at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
