As Chattanooga continues to flourish, residents of District 1 are getting ready to make an important decision come March of 2025. City Councilman Chip Henderson has formally announced that he will run for re-election to represent his district, which spans the scenic western portions of our beautiful city, including Lookout Valley, Moccasin Bend, Mountain Creek, and parts of Hixson and North Chattanooga.
One of the key themes of Henderson’s campaign is his commitment to providing a “consistent voice for transparency and accountability.” He states that during these times of dynamic growth, it’s crucial to adopt a conservative fiscal approach to safeguard the city’s future—a sentiment echoed by residents who cherish their neighborhoods and quality of life.
“My record shows that I will continue to fight for the residents’ quality of life,” Henderson said, emphasizing the importance of making the right improvements in sensible ways, all while avoiding unnecessary burdens on the people of District 1.
For more than a decade on the City Council, Henderson has been dedicated to raising pay for essential workers, including police, fire, and public works employees. He believes that having well-compensated workers ensures efficient and responsive city services. In fact, as the chair of the council this term, he led a vote to more than double the city’s paving budget. “When I first entered office, we were appropriating less than $2 million for paving; now we’ve set aside $10 million,” expressed Henderson proudly.
Under his leadership, the city has also invested significantly in crime prevention and taken unprecedented steps to tackle homelessness—issues that became more pronounced during the pandemic but have seen improvements as he takes charge.
Henderson is also known as a staunch advocate for Chattanooga’s veterans, showing strong support for the Armed Forces Day Parade, which has now become the longest-running event of its kind in the country. Additionally, he has worked diligently to boost city services at community centers and youth associations throughout Chattanooga.
“As a fiscal conservative, I’ve never wavered from my commitment to safeguard the critical services our city provides,” Henderson affirmed, emphasizing that District 1 residents deserve the best service at the lowest feasible cost. If constituents see fit to re-elect him, he plans to keep pushing for safer neighborhoods and improved city services.
In the next four years, Henderson pledges to:
Having lived with his wife, Deanne, in Lookout Valley for over 40 years, Henderson is deeply rooted in the community, where they raised three children. His extensive experience managing his own construction business also provides him with unique insights into efficient city services.
The campaign team is preparing for a formal kickoff event that promises to rally support in the coming weeks. With the city election on the horizon, it’s shaping up to be an exciting time in Chattanooga!
As we look forward to the future, one thing is clear: Chip Henderson’s drive for accountability and transparency keeps him focused on making Chattanooga a better place for all its residents.
