Hey Chattanooga! The holiday season is upon us, and while many are busy wrapping gifts and planning festive meals, it’s important not to forget about some changes in our garbage and recycling schedules during this special time of year. Let’s break it down so you can plan ahead without a hitch!
Firstly, if you were wondering about the garbage and recycle collection this week, you’re in luck! Normal collection will take place on Tuesday, December 24 as usual. No need to worry about any last-minute changes here—just set your bins out on the curb, and our trusty collection crews will be there to take the trash and recyclables away.
However, Christmas Day is a different story. For those of you who usually have collection on Wednesdays, mark your calendars! Your garbage and recycling will instead be picked up on Saturday, December 28. A small shift, but one that allows everyone to enjoy their holiday without the distraction of trash worries!
Now, if you were thinking about heading to the City of Chattanooga’s Recycle and Refuse Collection Centers during Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, you might want to rethink that plan. These centers will be closed on Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25.
Moreover, if you have household hazardous waste or wood that needs to be recycled, you’ll need to hold off until after the holidays. Those centers will shut their doors on December 24 and 25, reopening on Thursday, December 26. So, remember to stash those items safely until then!
Is your plan to swing by the City Landfill located off Birchwood Pike in Harrison? While we hope you’re there to dispose of waste responsibly, please note that the landfill will also be closed starting on Tuesday, December 24. Good news though—it will reopen just in time for your post-Christmas clean-up on Thursday, December 26.
If anything about the garbage and recycling schedule has left you scratching your head, fear not! Residents can easily call 311 for any additional questions. Our helpful staff is ready to assist you with holiday inquiries related to waste management!
For those relying on CARTA for transportation, be aware that service hours will also see some adjustments during the holidays. On Christmas Eve, the services will operate on a modified schedule, allowing riders plenty of time to make their holiday travels. However, CARTA will observe full closures on both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. This decision ensures everyone on the team can celebrate these joyful occasions with their loved ones.
And a quick heads up for our neighbors in Dalton! Their offices and non-emergency services will be closed on December 24 and December 25, as they take time to celebrate the holiday. They’ll be back in action right after, ready to serve the residents with a fresh spirit.
So there you have it, Chattanooga! Whether you’re bustling around for last-minute gifts or just soaking in the holiday magic, make sure you’re aware of these changes. It’s all about keeping our community clean and festive this season. Have a wonderful and joyous Christmas!
