Erica Moreland’s New Exhibition “Soaring” Takes Flight
Internationally recognized artist Erica Moreland will have her new abstract exhibit called “Soaring” open at the Area 61 Gallery in Chattanooga this Friday, August 2, from 6-8 pm. The exhibition is a part of Area 61’s monthly open house event dubbed ‘First Fridays’ and will run through September.
An Abstract Adventure
“Soaring” is inspired by an abstraction of wings—a form, design, and concept that Moreland is drawn to. It is a vivid exploration of light, colors, and the exhilaration of flight. “Soar means more than just to fly; to feel the wind slipping below you, rising swiftly as you ride it higher, higher, higher,” Moreland explains. “Flying is just moving through the air. Soaring, though, suggests exhilaration, even joy.”
Erica Moreland—A Passion for Painting
Moreland’s journey in the world of art is a testament to her passion and determination. Starting as a means to maintain work-life balance after obtaining a Psychology degree, her inclination towards painting grew, leading her back to the University to study art. Originally, Moreland was self-taught with her career budding from home and commercial interior design space, where she worked on murals.
Despite her initial focus upon landscapes and waterscapes, she discovered a love for abstract art in 2019. Since then, she has pursued education in the form of hands-on workshops and immersive study abroad programs. This transition into abstract fluid art allowed for her experience with 2D and 3D faux finishes to come into play, letting her express emotions and tell stories in a unique, captivating way.
About the Exhibit
The new exhibition “Soaring” will showcase Moreland’s latest works. All pieces displayed at the exhibit will be available for purchase until the end of September. As per Area 61’s policy, if any artwork sells during the exhibit, Moreland will replace it with another piece from her studio, ensuring that the gallery remains a spectacle of her creativity.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Moreland in person during the gallery’s open house events scheduled for August 2 and September 6, from 6 to 8 pm. Area 61 extends its hours of operation on the first Friday of every month, providing more accessibility to the vast array of artworks from over 30 local professional artists and craftsmen.
