Harrison, TN — Big changes are brewing at the Food City supermarket on Highway 58! The beloved grocery store just completed its multimillion-dollar expansion, and shoppers couldn’t be more thrilled. On a delightful Wednesday evening, the company officially wrapped up their extensive makeover, and the store is now bigger and better than ever.
Food City CEO, Steve Smith, announced that around $5 million was invested to expand the store by nearly 9,000 square feet. That’s a whole lot of extra room to shop! Not only does this expansion mean more space for groceries, but it also means creating 40 new jobs for the community, adding to the existing 120 employees. Sounds like a win-win for everyone involved!
This area of Hamilton County is booming, and Smith highlighted how crucial the grocery store has been for local residents, especially those frequenting the nearby recreational facilities. “We wanted to make sure they get the store they deserve,” he said with a smile. Community matters, and this supermarket has been a staple for many.
During the ceremony, even State Senator Bo Watson hopped on board to praise Food City for its contributions to the local economy. He noted how this grocery chain plays a significant role in the economic fabric of not just Harrison but the entire Southeast Tennessee area. Talk about an important player in town!
But hold on, there’s more to come! Smith shared some exciting news about what’s next for Food City in Chattanooga. A brand-new supermarket is in the works on Lee Highway, scheduled to debut early next year. This new store, set to cost around $17 million, will be located next to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home. With a whopping 56,000 square feet of retail space, it’s sure to be a hit among shoppers looking for variety and selection not seen in the previous location.
The expanded Harrison supermarket now boasts an improved food service area, and guess what? There’s even a shiny new Starbucks for coffee lovers to enjoy! The café area has increased in size so you can sit down and relax while sipping your favorite drink. Plus, their departments have all gotten the royal treatment – expect larger areas for meat, seafood, produce, and more. Everything you need is now even more accessible!
Ben Cairns, from the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, pointed out how crucial this updated Food City is to the region. Without it, he mentioned, the area might be seen as a bit of a “food desert.” Thanks to their ongoing investment, residents can count on a reliable grocery shopping experience.
In an impressive show of generosity, Food City recently helped raise around $2.1 million for victims affected by the historic flooding that impacted East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. While some of their delivery trucks faced delays due to road closures, it’s heartwarming to see how the company steps up in times of need.
With its roots firmly planted in Abingdon, Virginia, Food City is on an expansion roll and operates 158 retail outlets across East Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and beyond. The company is not just a place to shop; it’s becoming an integral part of the communities it serves.
So, if you haven’t checked out the newly revamped Harrison Food City yet, now is definitely the time! Fresh selections, impressive upgrades, and a commitment to the community—what more could you ask for? Time to grab your shopping bags and head on down!
