Food Inspection Scores Revealed: Chattanooga Eateries Showcase Varied Health Standards

Food Inspection Scores Released for Chattanooga and Surrounding Areas

Chattanooga, TN – This week, the health departments of Hamilton, Catoosa, and Walker counties released their latest food service inspection scores. Restaurants and food service establishments across the areas were evaluated on a 100-point scale, with inspections happening twice a year. Those that don’t meet critical health and safety standards are subject to reinspection, ensuring that our local eateries prioritize the well-being of their patrons.

The inspections reveal a broad spectrum of scores that indicate where establishments are thriving and where there is room for improvement. Let’s dig into the details!

Low Scores Raise Concerns

With a score of 68, Crust Pizza, located at 3211 S. Broad St., experienced significant issues during its inspection. Some concerns included a lack of active management over food safety risks, the presence of severely dented and rusty canned goods, and numerous dirty surfaces throughout the establishment. Perhaps most alarming were reports of rodent droppings found in the dry storage area and toxic items stored alongside food. These factors illustrate critical areas that must be addressed to ensure the safety of all who dine there.

Another establishment, Kenny’s Southside Sandwiches, scored 89. The inspection highlighted that the sanitizer in the dish machine was below required levels and that some food items were stored at unsafe temperatures. Cleanliness is key in these environments, and there are certainly steps that can be taken to boost their scores in the future.

Better Performers Shine Brightly

On a much more positive note, many establishments scored impressively high, with several reaching the coveted score of 100. Among these are Annoor Academy, Childcare Network, and Golden Corral. These scores demonstrate a stellar commitment to food safety and hygiene. Let’s all give a little cheer for those hardworking teams keeping food safety at the forefront!

For the sake of comparison, over at Chattanooga State Community College, they also received a commendable score of 99. Their ability to consistently meet health standards is a great encouragement for campus dining experiences.

Consistency Matters

To maintain this positive trajectory, establishments are encouraged to regularly review their practices and stay updated on food safety protocols. Employees should prioritize proper storage, cleanliness, and regular communication about food safety practices. After all, it’s better to keep up standards than to play catch-up later!

For anyone who might notice these issues firsthand, or if you have concerns about a specific food service establishment, you can take action by reaching out and reporting them to the respective health departments. Here are the numbers:

  • Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department: 423-209-8110
  • Catoosa County Health Department: 706-406-2030
  • Walker County Health Department: 706-639-2574

Looking Ahead

The food inspection scores not only reflect the state of our local food establishments today but also encourage them to strive for improved practices in the future. For those who love dining out, knowing which places are committed to maintaining high food safety standards can enhance our dining experience.

In summary, while we have some establishments that need to do better, it’s refreshing to see so many scoring well and prioritizing the health and safety of their customers. Here’s to delicious, safe meals ahead!
