Highlights include scores from popular dining spots, as well as areas requiring improvement. Health officials encourage all diners to stay informed about these inspections to ensure safe eating experiences.
Hey there, food lovers of Hamilton, Catoosa, and Walker Counties! If you’re a foodie or simply want to make sure your dining experiences are safe, you’ll want to pay attention to the latest food safety inspection results that just rolled in. Health departments in these areas perform inspections of food service establishments twice a year, grading them on a 100-point scale. This week, we’re giving you the lowdown on how your favorite spots came out!
For the week ending February 18, 2025, several restaurants and schools received their grades after thorough inspections. If an establishment doesn’t meet the critical standards, they get re-inspected, so you can feel confident about their commitment to keeping food safe and delicious.
Let’s first dive into the scores that raised some eyebrows. At Subway located on 3127 Broad St., the establishment scored a 82. This score, while not terrible, indicates some room for improvement, primarily due to violations such as improper food storage, inadequate handwashing, and issues with temperature control. And if you’re fond of Cajun flavors, be cautious of Bojangles on 4152 Ringgold Road which received 87 because of raw food storage concerns and temperature irregularities.
Meanwhile, the Chattanooga Charter School of Excellence scored an 88 with notable issues involving food temperature and unlabeled chemicals. It’s crucial that food served at schools maintains high safety standards, so parents may want to keep an eye on these scores.
Unfortunately, not all news is good. Lillie Mae’s Place on Dayton Blvd scored a troubling 65, primarily due to the presence of German cockroaches and improper food handling. This is alarming and it’s suggested that customers tread carefully until improvements are made. Crust on South Broad Street also turned heads with a 68, marked by issues including rodent droppings, unclean surfaces, and the lack of food date marking.
On a brighter note, many establishments received high scores, proving that they take food safety seriously! Popular spots like Arby’s, Sugar’s Ribs, and Clarion Inn all scored between 91 and 94, showcasing their commitment to safe food practices.
Even more impressive, there were several local schools and restaurants that scored a perfect 99 or 100. It’s comforting to know that many places prioritize cleanliness and safety!
A special shoutout goes to Yoki Buffet in Cleveland, which had previously received a score of a shocking 33. Thanks to their efforts, they bounced back to an 88 upon reinspection. This is a fantastic turnaround and a reminder that businesses can improve swiftly with the right adjustments!
It’s worth mentioning that most local restaurants, hotels, pools, and gyms inspected received passing marks, demonstrating a general commitment to food safety in the community. However, if you have any health-related compliance concerns or would like to report issues, don’t hesitate to reach out to your local health department:
So next time you’re out and about, whether it’s a casual bite to eat or a special meal, keep an eye on those scores! You deserve to eat at places that prioritize your health and safety above all. Happy dining!
