Chattanooga is buzzing with excitement as local Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians have kicked off a heartwarming initiative to support shelter dogs in the area. Teaming up with animal shelters, these young leaders are making a significant impact through their seasonal offering: the Girl Scout BarkBox.
The BarkBox is specially designed to bring some joy to the lives of shelter dogs who are patiently waiting for their “furever” homes. Each box is priced at just $25 and contains a delightful array of goodies. Inside, lucky pups will find the quirky Pose and Play Beret, a dog toy that can also be used as a stylish hat, some scrumptious Berry Trios treats, and fun instructions on how the pup can earn Puppy Patches for their achievements.
The best part? 100% of the proceeds stay local, directly funding Girl Scout troops across East Tennessee. This means that buying a BarkBox not only brings smiles to shelter dogs but also supports various Girl Scout programs, including the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
The initiative is all about giving back to the community. “Girl Scouts are encouraged to make meaningful contributions to their communities,” said the leader of the local troop. Through the partnership with the McKamey Animal Center, the girls are finding ways to show compassion not just to people, but also to our beloved four-legged friends.
For those looking to donate, the process is simple and rewarding. Potential buyers can visit GirlScoutBarkBox.org to purchase a box and select McKamey Animal Center or another participating animal shelter to receive their donation. This program is open until October 25, so there’s plenty of time to make a difference!
The McKamey Animal Center plays a vital role in Chattanooga, providing care and shelter for lost, abandoned, and neglected animals. Last year, the center welcomed a staggering 4,243 animals in need of help. This partnership with Girl Scouts not only supports McKamey but also fosters a sense of community among the scouts as they engage with local animal welfare issues.
It doesn’t stop there! The Girl Scouts of Southern Appalachians are also collaborating with other shelters like the Young-Williams Animal Center in Knoxville and the Appalachian Highlands Humane Society in Johnson City to expand their reach and support more furry friends in need.
While the Fall Product Program isn’t as widely recognized as the iconic Girl Scout Cookies campaign, it plays an essential role in teaching girls valuable life skills. Participants get the chance to learn about goal-setting, money management, decision-making, business ethics, and people skills. It’s a win-win situation as girls not only gain personal development skills but also contribute to the betterment of their community.
If you’re looking for a way to spread some love and joy while also making a donation to local shelters, consider snagging a Girl Scout BarkBox! It’s a simple yet impactful way to help both shelter pups and the community. Together, we can make a significant difference – one BarkBox at a time!
