Get ready, Chattanooga! This Thanksgiving morning, lace up your favorite tennis shoes and join thousands of enthusiastic residents and visitors in the heart of the Scenic City for a heartwarming tradition that’s close to many locals’ hearts. It’s time for the 25th Annual Grateful Gobbler Walk!
On November 28th, 2024, this enjoyable family and pet-friendly 5K kicks off at the beautiful Coolidge Park. The event begins promptly at 8 a.m., giving participants plenty of time to stroll, jog, or run before heading back home to savor their delicious Thanksgiving feasts—rest assured, you’ll be home by 10 a.m.!
What makes this event so special? It’s not just a fun-filled morning; it’s a community celebration with a purpose. The money raised through this event goes directly to help keep homeless families together. Last year, over 5,000 participants turned out for this heartfelt Thanksgiving 5K, showing strong community solidarity. Stan McCright, one of the race’s co-directors, shared some inspiring statistics. “Since 2014, more than 2,000 families have found temporary shelter and support at The Maclellan Shelter for Families, thanks to the Grateful Gobbler and its supporters,” he stated enthusiastically.
With this year marking the 25th anniversary of the Grateful Gobbler Walk, the event aims for even more participation. Whether you’re a hardcore runner or someone who prefers a casual stroll, everyone is invited to take part, either in person or virtually! So, if you’re not one for early birds or prefer to sleep in on Thanksgiving morning, don’t worry—you can still join as a Virtual or Sleep Walker for just $20.
Ready to register? The fee is $30 for adults and $15 for children aged 12 and under. Each registration helps in funding essential services offered by The Maclellan Shelter for Families, which aims to provide shelter, childcare, transportation, and most importantly, HOPE for families experiencing homelessness.
Want to lend a helping hand? The Grateful Gobbler Walk is also looking for volunteers. So whether you’re participating, volunteering, or donating, you’ll be making a positive impact in the community. For more information or to sign up, just head over to www.gratefulgobblerwalk.org and get involved!
So, this Thanksgiving, why not kick start your holiday with a purpose? Gather your friends, family, and even your four-legged companions, and celebrate the spirit of giving in a fun and healthy way at the Grateful Gobbler Walk. Let’s make this year’s event one for the books as we continue to spread love and support to those who really need it.
