Hamilton County, Tennessee is currently grappling with a chilling series of arrests linked to severe sexual offenses against minors. These arrests have raised eyebrows and brought essential conversations about safety and protection in our communities to the forefront.
On March 9, 2025, a significant arrest was made when Adam Morgan was apprehended following a 21-count indictment by a Hamilton County Grand Jury. Morgan is facing multiple charges that are deeply concerning, with his offenses including 10 counts of Solicitation of a Minor to Observe Sexual Conduct and 10 counts of Especially Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. Additionally, he is charged with 1 count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. Local law enforcement had been actively searching for him since the charges were announced, indicating the urgency and seriousness of his actions.
Just a few days earlier, on March 6, 2025, the arrest of Mark Allen Hernandez, a former teacher from Hixson, came to light. Hernandez pled guilty to charges that include sexual battery by an authority figure and 2 counts of solicitation of a minor. His case is particularly alarming, as it involves an inappropriate relationship with a 14-year-old student. Investigations revealed that Hernandez had exchanged sexually explicit text messages with the young girl, even encouraging her to sneak out for sexual encounters. Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Barry Steelman responded to his actions with a six-year prison sentence, directing that the first six months would be served in jail, followed by 5.5 years of probation.
Another troubling story emerged with the arrest of Thomas Jones, a fugitive who was wanted for aggravated assault and domestic assault, among other offenses. Jones led law enforcement on a thrilling vehicle and foot chase before being captured. He currently has nine active warrants in Hamilton County, alongside multiple open warrants through the City of Soddy Daisy. The dramatic nature of his arrest included officers using a Taser to bring him into custody.
In a case that has raised enormous concerns in the local education community, Kenya White, a teacher from Chattanooga Preparatory School, was arrested on federal charges of sexual exploitation and enticement of a minor. White was already facing allegations from a previous Hamilton County indictment related to incidents at East Lake Academy, where he was suspended and not offered a contract renewal. However, much to the surprise of many, he later secured a position at Chattanooga Preparatory School, despite warnings about his past conduct. Internal communications indicated that the school had been cautioned against hiring him, raising questions about hiring practices and the safety of students.
The series of arrests in Hamilton County highlight a critical need for vigilance and proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of minors within our community. With such serious allegations surfacing, parents, educators, and leaders are prompted to engage in meaningful conversations about child safety and the importance of reporting inappropriate behavior.
As the community grapples with these incidents, it is vital for everyone to remain aware of their surroundings and support one another in nurturing a safe environment for all children.
