Hey there, Hamilton County! Big changes are on the horizon for the Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center, and they’re going to make a world of difference for inmates and their families. In a move that is sure to bring some relief, Sheriff Austin Garrett recently announced that a brand new inmate communication system will be making its debut in early 2025! Exciting, right?
So, what’s all the fuss about? Well, this shiny new system comes from Smart Communications, who won a competitive bidding process that kicked off back in February 2024. They’re stepping in to replace the current provider, Securus, and they’re bringing some seriously impressive changes with them.
If you’ve ever had to pay for a phone call or video visit with someone behind bars, you know it can really add up. But guess what? With the new system, families are going to be able to breathe a little easier financially! The cost of a 15-minute phone call is slashed from $2.85 down to only 60 cents! And for those who prefer video chats, you can expect a drop from $7.50 to just $1.50 for a 15-minute video visit. Now that’s a win for everyone!
But wait, there’s more! To make it even easier for families to stay connected, each inmate will get two free phone calls and two free video visits every week. That’s right! No more excuses for not keeping in touch!
Now, it’s not just families who are getting more accessible communication options. Attorneys, take note! The new system will also provide a dedicated, secure portal just for attorney-client communications. This means lawyers can easily chat with their clients, send documents, and receive electronic signatures—all without having to step foot inside the jail. And don’t worry, the information shared is protected by attorney-client privilege, so the HCSO won’t have any access to those communications. Privacy matters!
Here’s something to celebrate: the county won’t have to spend a dime on the installation and equipment for this new system. That’s right! The Smart Communications system is coming at absolutely no cost to the taxpayers. What a relief!
So, to sum it all up: Hamilton County is gearing up for a fantastic upgrade to its inmate communication system in 2025, helping families connect in more affordable ways while enhancing security for confidential attorney conversations.
Changes like these can really help bridge the gap between inmates and their loved ones. Staying connected is essential for mental well-being, and this is a big step in the right direction! Keep your eyes peeled for more updates as we approach the launch of this exciting new system!
And of course, don’t forget to stay updated on all the sweet happenings in Hamilton County! Whether it’s about the jail, public safety, or just good ol’ community news, knowing what’s going on helps everyone stay connected. Until next time, take care, Hamilton County!
