Fatal Hit-and-Run Driver Located, Says Local Authorities

Chattanooga officials have discovered the suspect involved in a deadly hit-and-run incident

In a press release, local police announced they have located the fatal hit-and-run driver involved in an accident that occurred along Shallowford Road earlier this month, leaving a woman dead. The woman, aged 36, was found with life-threatening injuries in the 7200 block of Shallowford after officers responded to the scene of the accident at approximately 2:30 a.m. on June 8.

The Incident

According to police reports, the driver of a Ford F-150 truck was moving west on Shallowford at the time of the incident. The woman was attempting to cross the street when she was hit by the vehicle – an incident the driver allegedly fled from ahead of police arrival.

Vehicle Description

The suspect vehicle is described as a bronze or gold Ford F-150 equipped with custom lighting. This information was crucial in assisting police in their search for the driver. The public was asked to aid in identifying the driver over the weekend, leading to improving the investigation.

The Investigation Progress

By Monday evening, authorities had successfully identified and located the driver, as indicated in a recent police news release. Despite the progress, the investigation is still ongoing. It is currently uncertain whether the driver will be charged in the fatal hit-and-run incident.

A Growing Problem

The city has witnessed an alarming increase in pedestrian fatalities resulting from driver accidents, with a record number just last year. The recent incident follows another alarming case in Ooltewah the previous night, where a cyclist was hit by two Ford F-150 trucks. The cyclist’s condition and the details of the incident are still being investigated by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Moving forward

As the investigation continues, authorities remind the public to engage in safe driving practices and be watchful of pedestrians. It is hoped that these incidents will spark modern safety implementations in the area and encourage drivers to behave responsibly on the roads.
