The Chattanooga Music Club Presents A Holiday Spectacular
Chattanooga, get ready to embrace the magic of the holiday season! On Sunday, November 17, at 3 p.m., the Chattanooga Music Club will be hosting its annual Holiday Spectacular at the charming First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. This free event is sure to fill your hearts with joy and your ears with melodious tunes.
Meet the Talented Performers
This year’s concert lineup is nothing short of spectacular! The stage will come alive with the enchanting sounds of the Opera Tennessee Carolers, the delightful Metropolitan Bells Quartet, and the harmonious Voci Virili Men’s Consort.
The Opera Tennessee Carolers will grace the audience with their traditional costumes and powerful voices. Led by talented singers Marianna Allen, Cathy Laird, Nick Davidson, and E.J. Laird, their performance promises to inspire music lovers of all ages. With a mission dedicated to educating and enhancing the appreciation of opera in the Chattanooga community, these carolers aim to create an unforgettable experience.
Next up, we have the Metropolitan Bells Quartet, a crowd favorite that has been entertaining audiences for a whopping 30 years. This year’s quartet, featuring Gary Bynum, Jad Johnson, Becky Price, and Sherry Shaver, will showcase an eclectic selection of Christmas melodies, including duets and solos that will surely get everyone into the holiday spirit.
Let’s not forget the remarkable Voci Virili Men’s Consort. Translating to “voice of reason,” this group brings together 18 trained male voices for an extraordinary performance of a cappella tunes. Their repertoire includes a mix of classic pieces by composers like Palestrina and Forrest, as well as lively sea shanties and festive carols. Be on the lookout for talented soloists such as tenors James Harr and Justin Hipp, who will surely leave a lasting impression. The music will be beautifully accompanied by the talented John Wigal on piano.
A Little History
The Chattanooga Music Club, recognized as the oldest music club in Tennessee, has been a pillar of the local fine arts scene since its inception in 1896. Over its 128-year history, the club has not only enriched the local culture but has also supported budding musicians through its scholarship competition. In fact, since 1946, approximately 200 students have received awards, allowing many to pursue careers in music, ranging from professional performers to dedicated educators. In 2023 alone, over $10,000 was awarded to deserving high school seniors.
The club’s dedication to music does not stop here; they have also made significant contributions, such as major restorations of the prominent Austin Pipe Organ at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Auditorium, a masterpiece originally installed back in 1925.
