Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the bridge has faced issues. Just six months ago, debris fell from the same spot, resulting in another significant shutdown. The bridge, which spans almost 216 feet over Dodds Avenue, was built way back in 1963 and underwent a renovation in 1987. In 2021, estimates for recommended rehabilitation hit almost $6 million. And let’s not forget: as I-24 crosses over Missionary Ridge, it stretches above several bridges built around the same time, all of which are now listed among the “Top Most Traveled Structurally Deficient Bridges in Tennessee” for 2024.
