Traffic Alert for I-24 Travelers in Marion County
Road construction work set to begin on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, is expected to impact traffic flow. The Tennessee Department of Transportation has announced the commencement of resurfacing activities on I-24 West near mile marker 137. This will result in temporary lane closures.
Schedule of Lane Closures
Starting Tuesday evening, May 28, 2024, through to Thursday, June 6, 2024, the affected section of I-24 West will be reduced to one lane. The lane closure will occur each night from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am CT. Drivers using this route should anticipate potential traffic delays and are advised to exercise utmost caution when moving through the construction zone.
Enforced Safety Measures
The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be on-site to oversee and ensure the smooth flow of traffic. Road signage will also be posted to direct motorists as they navigate through the work zone. This arrangement is, however, weather-dependent, such that rescheduling may be necessitated by adverse weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
Staying Informed
Motorists are implored to stay updated on the latest construction activity and access live streaming of SmartWay traffic cameras via www.TNSmartWay.com/Traffic. They can also dial 511 from any land-line or cellular phone for travel information or follow updates on Twitter at www.twitter.com/TN511 for statewide travel or Chattanooga area alerts at @Chattanooga511.
Safe Practices
As part of the campaign to promote road safety, the Tennessee Department of Transportation reminds drivers to never tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while behind the wheel. Knowing before going is encouraged by checking travel conditions before setting out for their destination.
