Highway users travelling on I-24 in Coffee County, Tennessee should prepare for significant changes in traffic patterns due to a scheduled bridge replacement project on I-24 at SR 2. According to a statement released by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), contract teams will be organizing a nightly interstate traffic shift from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am local time. This shift is expected to commence on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, and will wrap up by Friday, June 28, 2024.
Motorists are advised that during these scheduled periods, traffic on I-24 at mile marker 105 will be diverted in both directions to the Exit 105 ramps. In conjunction with this, the US 41 (SR 2) at log mile 8.2 will remain closed in both directions for the entire duration of the works. TDOT encourages motorists to exercise caution when navigating the traffic shift and to heed the advisory signage posted in and around the work zone.
This upcoming bridge replacement project is subject to weather conditions. In the event of inclement weather or unexpected circumstances causing a delay, the work will be rescheduled and motorists will be informed accordingly. The TDOT beseechs the public to stay informed on the latest updates concerning the construction activity and the ensuing traffic changes.
Motorists and the general public can access the most recent updates on construction activity and live-streaming SmartWay traffic cameras via the official TDOT website at www.TNSmartWay.com/Traffic. For updated statewide travel information, users can dial 511 from any landline or mobile phone. TDOT reminds drivers to use these information tools wisely and “Know Before You Go!” by checking traffic conditions before embarking on their journey.
In addition to staying informed, the department implores drivers to practice safe driving by refraining from using their cell phones for texting, tweeting or talking while behind the wheel. This comes as a part of TDOT’s ongoing efforts to promote road safety and reduce distracted driving accidents.
