Kay Rickman Campbell Boney, the Great Floral Artisan, Passes Away

A life dedicated to beauty, flora, and faith

CHATTANOOGA, TN- The accomplished floral designer, Kay Rickman Campbell Boney, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Being a local to Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain for most of her life, Kay spent her last 16 years in Jacksonville, Florida with her second husband, Paisley Boney III.

An Inspired Life Journey

Born to James P. and Katherine G. Rickman on August 11, 1937, Kay was a native of the Riverview area. From an early age, she was recognized for her unwavering knack for creating beauty in everything she did. Be it serving a simple meal or decorating her home, her keen aesthetic sensibility was ever present. This passion led to her enterprise Occasional Flowers, a business dedicated to sprinkling joy and beauty across Chattanooga through floral designs.

A Florist, Philanthropist, and Eternal Devotee

An epitome of grace and an ambassador of beauty, Kay is remembered for her various roles – a floral designer supreme, a dedicated member of the Junior League, a board member of Little Miss Mag Child Care Center, and a devoted member of the Garden Club of America. While her floral designs have adorned many weddings and events, her active role in the Child Care Center has impacted many young lives. She even carried this passion to Jacksonville, where she involved herself in the formation of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church.

A Legacy of Beauty, Creativity, and Devotion

Throughout her life, Kay’s commitment to beauty and creation made her a beloved figure in her communities. Whether it was her vibrant floral arrangements or her service in local organizations, Kay’s influence was always evident and will be deeply missed. As an active leader in Bible studies, she also shared her love for God and taught many others to do the same.

Remembrance and Celebration

Kay is survived by her three children, Kit Horwick, Jamie Campbell, and Meghan (Martin) Summitt, five grandchildren, her great-granddaughter, and her sister, Susan Smithline (Syd). A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 28, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Lookout Mountain, followed by a reception at Talbird hall. The bereaved family extends gratitude towards the staff of Thrive at Brow Wood for their continual love and support towards Kay during her final days. They are especially thankful to Christy Melville and other sitters for their personal attention and care. Memorial contributions can be made to the flower guild of the Church of the Good Shepherd in memory of Kay.

Legacy Onwards

Kay’s life exemplified the idea that beauty and kindness could exist in every small act. Her legacy continues in the hearts she touched with her arrangements, her devotion to her faith, and her love for people.
