Larry Eugene Russell: The Man Who Made a Difference

Chattanooga native, Larry Eugene Russell, has passed away at the age of 83. Known for his sales prowess and philanthropic works, Russell left an indelible mark on the community that will not be forgotten anytime soon.

Celebrating a Life Well-lived

Larry Eugene Russell, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at the age of 83. He was a businessman, a committed churchgoer and an active member of the community. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him.

Mr. Russell contributed significantly to the local business community. He served WTS Media for 35 years before his retirement, within which period he was honored as salesman of the year on numerous occasions. Prior to this, his sales acumen shone brightly at Capitol Toyota where he was also judged salesman of the year various times. Mr. Russell had an exceptional ability to connect with people which made him an excellent salesman and a beloved member of the community.

Mr. Russell was not only a successful businessman, but he was also an active member of the Chattanooga community. He was a partner at the Alder-Finkle-Russell & Swingle Insurance Agency. An avid sports fan, he loved the Tennessee Vols, Atlanta Braves, and was an accomplished bowler and golfer. Additionally, his creative side was evident in his love for music. He was a gifted singer-songwriter, producing a CD to benefit the ‘Serve One Save (SOS) Ministry’ which he openly founded.

A Pillar of the Church

Mr. Russell was a dedicated member of the Calvary Independent Baptist Church for at least 49 years. His faith was a defining element of his life, shaping the way in which he conducted business, interacted with others in the community, and gave back to those less fortunate through the SOS Ministry.

Survived by His Beloved Family

Mr. Russell leaves behind his wife, Doris Russell, and his children, Stan (Melinda) Russell, Cindy (Ken) Wittler of Chattanooga, Stephanie (Collin) Wood of Nashville, TN, and Andy (Arianna Jimenez) Russell of Marietta, GA. He is also survived by his sister, Holly (Nolan) Henrich of Ooltewah, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. His family mourns his loss while celebrating the incredible life that he led.

The funeral services will be held at Calvary Independent Baptist Church on Saturday, August 3 at 11 a.m., with Dr. Jamie Colbert and Rev. Clif Roth officiating. The burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

In honor of Mr. Russell’s vibrant life, the family has requested that everyone attending the service come dressed in bright colors.
