In a major summer concert announcement, celebrated Americana singer-songwriter Lilly Hiatt is set to headline the Nightfall concert series this Friday at Miller Plaza. As Chattanooga continues to savor its longest-running outdoor summer concert series, fans will get a chance to relish in Hiatt’s distinctive blend of folk, Americana, and rock and roll.
The daughter of legendary singer-songwriter John Hiatt, Lilly Hiatt has carved a unique niche for herself in the music industry. Originally lending her voice as backing vocals on her father’s 2008 album, ‘Same Old Man’, Hiatt has continued to flourish. Her music, deeply rooted in country and roots rock elements, showcases her skill in storytelling through her often personal, relatable lyrics.
Recognized by the Americana Music Honors & Awards as the ‘Best Emerging Artist’ in 2018, Hiatt has shared the stage with prominent names such as Aaron Lee Tasjan, John Moreland, Drive-by Truckers, Margo Price, and John Prine, amongst others.
The Nightfall concert series will commence at 7pm with an opening performance by The Briars. Constituting of the local husband-and-wife duo Jerris Schmidt and Robert Lovett, The Briars are known for their modern, melodic songs with acoustic textures rooted in traditional American music. This will be their first Nightfall performance.
In addition to the main events, attendees are encouraged to arrive early to partake in the ‘Nightfall Happy Hour’, which offers weekly drink specials from 5:30-6:30pm.
Nightfall’s new layout extends down to M.L.King and Lindsay Street and encapsulates a variety of local food trucks. Additionally, it hosts roller skating in the street by Dazey Skate Co. with both rental and own skate options. The event will feature around 25 local artisans displaying their work for sale around the perimeter of Miller Park.
Kid-friendly elements include The Chattanooga Football Club’s inflatable soccer field, face painting, and lawn games. Free motorcycle and bicycle parking will be provided in designated areas near M.L.King.
Nightfall provides discount beer tickets at each show, offering a 20% savings on a packet of 20 beer tickets. Patrons are reminded not to bring in outside food or beverages, as sales from the concessions are a primary source of funding for the Nightfall series.
Recognized not only for its high-quality music programming but also for its family-friendly atmosphere, Nightfall is an event that brings the Chattanooga community together. It has been nominated again this year as ‘Best Local Event’.
