Local Scouts Launch MoonPie Sale to Fundraise and Support Troops

Local Scouts Team Up With MoonPies And Ask For The Public’s Help In 4th Annual Sale

Chattanooga, September 9, 2024 — The local Cherokee Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America has teamed up once again with Chattanooga Bakery to launch their annual MoonPie Selling Campaign to raise funds for local Scouting groups. This annual fundraiser kicks off this month and will continue through November. Scouts will be selling door-to-door in their neighborhoods and setting up sales booths on weekends at various local businesses.

Proceeds from each sale will directly benefit local Scouting groups, and there are exciting prizes in store for all participating Scouts. One noteworthy prize is the opportunity to join a special Scout MoonPie Day with the Chattanooga Lookouts Baseball Team.

Community Spirit and Local Support

Jared Pickens, scout executive/CEO of the Cherokee Area Council, expressed his enthusiasm about the yearly event. “The 100 percent local nature of this sale truly epitomizes Scouting values and the spirit of Chattanooga,” Mr. Pickens said. “We love that when someone buys MoonPies from a Scout, their dollar stays 100% local. It goes to the Scout, to the local Council, and even to workers at Chattanooga Bakery.”

Adding his support, volunteer chair of the MoonPie effort, Kyle Croft, noted, “Excuse the pun, but we are ‘over the moon’ to team up with Chattanooga Bakery again for this fun and worthwhile local effort. Scouts raise much-needed funds to cover annual costs for their groups. Our Chattanooga area neighbors will be given an opportunity to support these local Scouts while getting access to the absolute freshest MoonPies available anywhere. These MoonPies come directly from Chattanooga Bakery, so this is a chance to get them in-hand before they’re even available in stores. It’s a win-win for the Scouts and supporters.”

New Flavors on the Horizon

Tory Johnston, vice president of sales & marketing for Chattanooga Bakery, was excited about not only continuing the partnership but also introducing a new flavor to the mix. “We are thrilled to continue our fourth year of partnering with local Scouts and even more excited that our new and super popular Blueberry MoonPies will be available through the effort! Get them while you can.”

Supporting More than Just Scouts

The Cherokee Area Council has also partnered again with the local nonprofit Friends of the Troops to give the community an option to purchase MoonPies from Scouts that will be sent to local military personnel stationed overseas, giving them a “taste of home”.

Consumers and supporters can purchase MoonPies directly from the Scouts in their neighborhoods or in front of partnering stores such as Elder’s Ace Hardware, Food City, and Tractor Supply. If you’d like to help local Scouts but aren’t approached during the sale, you can call 423-713-7629 or email Sara.Williford@Scouting.org to directly support local Scouts through the sale.

Community Involvement Encouraged

The Cherokee Area Council encourages everyone in the community to support the local Scouts by purchasing MoonPies. This annual event not only helps to raise funds for the Scouts but also strengthens the bond within the community by supporting local businesses and providing a unique taste of Chattanooga.

This partnership showcases a strong sense of community and tradition, making the MoonPie Selling Campaign an essential event for all Chattanooga residents to look forward to. Your support makes a significant difference in continuing the rich heritage of Scouting in the Chattanooga area.
