Community Mourns the Loss of Maureen Patricia Downey Parr, Cherished Nurse and Lifelong Caregiver

Remembering Maureen Patricia Downey Parr: A Lifelong Caregiver and Lover of Life

Chattanooga, Tennessee – A beloved member of the Chattanooga community, Maureen Patricia Downey Parr, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the age of 67. Known for her bright spirit and compassionate nature, Maureen’s legacy lives on through her extensive family and the numerous lives she touched during her time as an operating room nurse.

Maureen dedicated much of her life to the medical field, finding immense joy in the companionship of her coworkers. Over the years, she became a pillar of support in the hospital, always the first to lend a hand and share a smile. Her ability to alleviate anxieties and bring calm to the often hectic environment of the operating room was nothing short of remarkable.

Outside of work, Maureen cherished her family deeply. Holidays were a particularly special time for her, filled with laughter, music, and heartwarming moments shared with loved ones. Her love for music extended into everyday life, as she’d often have a tune at the ready, especially during beach vacations and camping trips—two of her favorite pastimes. Additionally, Maureen had a knack for collecting antiques, each piece holding a story that captivated her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian, father, Edward, and brother, Michael. Maureen leaves behind her devoted husband, Ken; daughters, Courtney, Stephanie (Luke), and Jennifer (Blake); son, Kevin (Shelby); grandchildren, Lilly, Leaf, Leila, Merritt, and Brooke. She is also survived by her brothers Edward, John, and Donald and sisters Jean, Ronnie, Laura, and Theresa, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

In honor of Maureen’s memory, her family will be holding a memorial service, details of which will be announced at a later date. The final resting place for Maureen will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Chattanooga. As an alternative to flowers, the family encourages planting a tree in her remembrance through the Hamilton Funeral Home page or making a donation to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. These gestures will continue Maureen’s legacy of care and love for the environment and community.

Maureen’s family expresses their deepest gratitude to Viviant Healthcare for the years of dedicated care she received and to the nurses at Hearth Hospice who ensured her peace and comfort in her final days. Their exceptional professionalism and heartfelt compassion provided immense support during a difficult time.

Maureen Patricia Downey Parr is remembered fondly by those who knew her. Her faith, love for her family, and joyous outlook on life brought sunshine into the lives of many. She was a treasured mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the countless hearts she touched.

Arrangements are being handled by the Hamilton Funeral Home, located at 4506 Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN, 37343. The family looks forward to welcoming friends and loved ones to share in the celebration of Maureen’s remarkable life.
