From January 13 to January 20, residents can dive into a range of activities designed to remember the incredible contributions of this iconic leader and turn the day into a national day of service.
The celebrations kick off on January 13, so grab your calendars because you’ll definitely want to mark these down! The opening event is a virtual presentation aimed at shedding light on the critical topic of “Housing Justice and Anti-Displacement in Marginalized Communities.” It will be led by Jecorey Arthur at 6 p.m., perfect for those who want to engage from the comfort of home.
Fast forward to January 14! If you’re passionate about education, head on over to the Bessie Smith Cultural Center for the “Stand for Public Schools (No to School Vouchers!) Day of Action,” kicking off at 6 p.m. It’s a significant opportunity for community members to gather and voice their thoughts on a cause that impacts so many.

There’s something for everyone, including tree planting at Southside Community Park, a youth leadership symposium at the Chattanoogan Hotel (ideal for those aged 13 and up), free access to activities at the Hunter Museum of American Art, and the special Dreamer’s Day event hosted by Creative Discovery Museum from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s a wonderful way to engage with King’s legacy!
And the cherry on top? The 55th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade at 1 p.m. beginning at Miller Park and winding its way to Peeples Street.
