Exciting News for Chattanooga Residents: New Police Mobile App Launched!

Chattanooga is buzzing with fresh updates as the police department has just introduced a new mobile app called CityGuards, aimed at making communication easier between the community and law enforcement. Announced on a Wednesday evening, this initiative is part of a recent tech trend in Hamilton County, where both the court system and sheriff’s office launched their own apps just last month.

What is CityGuards All About?

The CityGuards app is free and available for both Android and iPhone users, and the best part? You don’t need to register or share any personal information to use it! Simply download the app and start searching for Chattanooga to access a variety of features. Assistant Chief John Chambers highlighted the growing reliance on smartphones, stating, “Cellphones are attached to all of us, and they’re utilized every day, everywhere we go.” The aim here is to enable community members to stay involved and help keep the streets safe.

Stay Informed with Real-Time Alerts

One of the app’s standout features is that it will send updates and alerts on significant incidents, including major accidents and large law enforcement responses that could affect daily life. This means you’ll be informed of what’s happening in the city, without needing to constantly check different sources.

Safety First – Anonymous Crime Tips

Another crucial aspect of the CityGuards app is the ability for users to submit anonymous crime tips. This feature allows residents to share information without the fear of being identified. The app emphasizes that while tips can be submitted, it does not replace the need to call 911 in case of emergencies. Chambers explained, “It just gives you direct access to give a tip to us that we manage internally through our intelligence unit.”

Requesting Reports Made Easy

Users can also find out how to request incident reports from the department through the app, although it will not allow direct downloads of those reports. This enhancement shows the department’s commitment to transparency and community involvement.

Keeping Up with Technology

This release is the third app that the department has rolled out. Assistant Chief Chambers noted that technology evolves quickly, stating, “As technology goes, things, once they get to be about 3 years old, there are going to be new advancements in that space.” This reflects their commitment to staying updated and providing the best tools for the public.

A Step Forward for Chattanooga’s Law Enforcement

The new app comes at a pivotal time for the police department, especially with Chambers being appointed as the new chief. He will soon present himself to city council members for official confirmation. Until then, the app currently showcases Interim Chief Harry Sommers, who stepped into the role after the previous chief resigned amidst a state investigation.

Building Community Trust

A department spokesperson, Keaira Turner, emphasized the value of the CityGuards app, saying, “This enhances our mission and value on keeping our city safe and also building our community together.” It’s clear that this tool is designed not just to inform, but to foster a partnership between law enforcement and the Chattanooga community.

In an era where community safety and quick communication are more important than ever, the CityGuards app could very well be a game-changer for residents in Chattanooga. So, if you live in the area or know someone who does, make sure to spread the word about this innovative tool that promises to keep the community informed and engaged!
