Traditional New Orleans Trombone Star Headlines Nightfall This Friday
Chattanooga is gearing up for an unforgettable musical spectacle this Friday, as acclaimed trombone sensation, Glen David Andrews, and his band are all set to headline Nightfall at 8pm, the city’s longest-running free summer concert series.
Bringing the Spirit of New Orleans to Chattanooga
Glen David Andrews, a cousin of the world-renowned Trombone Shorty, is celebrated for possessing a profound understanding and mastery of the traditional New Orleans trombone style. Infused with the energy and character of New Orleans’ second-line parades, Andrews’ music carries a captivating essence that stretches beyond geographical boundaries.
Along with his older brother Derrick Tabb, a member of the esteemed Rebirth Brass Band, and their cousin, the famed Trombone Shorty, the young Andrews was indoctrinated into the historic brass band tradition. Learning from such iconic figures as Tuba Fats, Andrews embarked on a path that exposed him and his music to the world.
From Talented Protege to Headliner
With a career that spans global performances, Andrews has been touring since the age of 14, displaying an exclusive blend of musicianship and showmanship. The music developed by Andrews and his outstanding ensemble interlaces diverse traditions like jazz, gospel, rock, blues, and funk into an exhilarating musical journey. Notably, Andrews has achieved headliner status at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, recognized as the world’s largest block party.
More Than Music
The concert on Friday night will not be limited to the vibrant notes of Glen David Andrews and his ensemble. Opening the show with a 7pm set is Bemi Allen, a practiced singer-songwriter known for her soulful performance style that incorporates elements of reggae, soul, and Americana. With over 13 years of live show experience, Allen’s music reflects a distinct fusion of genres and personal passion.
Moreover, Nightfall will host a special display of 25 cars from Rally USA Tennessee. Showcased on Georgia Avenue from 6:30-8:30pm, this exhibit will mark the ceremonial kick-off for the 2024 Tennessee Rally USA scheduled for June 14-15 in Chattanooga and Polk County, Tennessee.
Nightfall Happy Hour
While the music is set to begin on the Miller Plaza stage at 7pm, visitors can enjoy an early start with the ‘Nightfall Happy Hour.’ This pre-concert feature will run weekly from 5:30-6:30pm, serving up special drink offers for early arrivals.
Funding and Fun
Operational funding is primarily derived from concession sales; therefore, attendees are kindly asked not to bring any outside food or beverages into the Nightfall concert. The family-friendly environment and top-quality musical programming have led to Nightfall being nationally recognized and nominated this year as the “Best Local Event” by Chattanooga residents.
