Ooltewah Congressman Chuck Fleischmann Seeks Reelection

In the charming city of Ooltewah, Congressman Chuck Fleischmann is gearing up for what could be his eighth term representing Tennessee’s District 3 in the U.S. House of Representatives. With elections just around the corner, Fleischmann is ready to meet the challenge of November 5th, facing off against Democrat Jack Allen, along with independents Stephen “Scooter” King and Jean Howard-Hill.

A Commitment to Opportunities

Fleischmann, who has been a steady presence in the House since he first took office in 2010, has a clear vision for his future and the future of his constituents. In a heart-to-heart interview, he shared his motivation for running, stating, “I wanted those opportunities to be there for my children, for other people’s children.” His concerns reflect a longing for the America he remembers from the 1960s and 70s, which he feels is slipping away due to excessive regulation and taxation.

As a proud father of three and husband to Brenda, he admits, “I want to preserve the same opportunities I had.” This passion keeps him connected to the 822,000 residents in his district, which includes the vibrant counties of Hamilton, Bradley, and McMinn.

Fleischmann’s Journey: From Humble Beginnings

Born in New York, Fleischmann has an inspiring backstory marked by both hardship and determination. After losing his mother to cancer at the age of 13 and navigating through a childhood spent moving from city to city, he was determined to excel. Being the first in his family to attend college gave him a sense of accomplishment. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Illinois before heading to the University of Tennessee College of Law.

Together with Brenda, Fleischmann established a law firm in Chattanooga without the usual safety net. He reflected on those hard days, stating, “We made $50 our first month practicing law.” While they started from scratch, through persistence and hard work, they turned that small beginning into a successful law practice.

A Community Advocate

Fleischmann’s commitment to his community has not gone unnoticed. Local attorney Brian O’Shaughnessy, who has known Fleischmann for years, described him as someone who is always there when needed. “He really does have concern for those people, whether they liked him or not,” O’Shaughnessy stated, reflecting the respect and friendship that Fleischmann has cultivated with those in his district.

Fleischmann is knee-deep in various initiatives, including funding for the Chickamauga lock, significant environmental clean-up efforts, and advocating for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to reclaim their historic lands. He emphasizes the importance of community and collaboration in all his endeavors, keeping the focus on what benefits the people he serves.

Key Issues at the Forefront

As he approaches the election, Fleischmann faces scrutiny over pressing issues like inflation, jobs, and foreign policy. He has clarity around his positions; notably, he is vocal about his pro-life stance and has a 100% voting record on this issue. Additionally, he advocates for reforming education to give states more control over how federal dollars are utilized.

In terms of gun policy, while not a gun owner himself, he does not support banning assault weapons. He cites that violence stems from deeper societal issues, stating, “it’s the evil will, the mental illness, the sick mind, not the weapon that is the problem.”

Looking Ahead

As early voting in Tennessee kicks off this Wednesday, the next few weeks promise to be bustling! With Fleischmann’s commitment to address the needs and concerns of his diverse district, it’s clear he’s determined to uphold the community spirit that guides his work.

Aiming for continued service, he brings experience, dedication, and an understanding of the challenges constituents face. One thing is for sure: Ooltewah will have much at stake come Election Day, and for Congressman Chuck Fleischmann, his journey is far from over as he works to maintain the opportunities he holds dear for future generations.
