Patriotism Shines Through Chattanooga’s New God and Country Float Celebration

Patriotism Takes Center Stage in Chattanooga

Chattanooga is buzzing with excitement as the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 203 proudly debuted their new float, aptly named the God and Country Float. This float embarked on its inaugural journey last Friday, charming locals as it paraded its way from the Medal of Honor Heritage Center downtown all the way to the popular Hamilton Place Mall in East Brainerd.

Music and Meaning in the Streets

As the float rolled through neighborhoods and bustling business districts, the iconic and lively John Phillips Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” rang through the air, inviting smiles and waves from onlookers. The float, which took three months to build and features 50 flags representing each of the United States, serves a heartfelt purpose, one that is deeply felt by the members of Chapter 203.

Encouraging Civic Responsibility

Chapter 203 President Charlie Hobbs described the float as more than just a beautiful sight, saying, “We are trying to send a positive message encouraging everyone to vote on Nov. 5.” He emphasized that while their chapter doesn’t endorse any specific candidates, they believe it’s every citizen’s responsibility to vote.

The float isn’t just a one-time event; it’s set to travel around the area in the coming months and will also be featured in various patriotic parades, including next May’s Armed Forces Day Parade in downtown Chattanooga. Mr. Hobbs humorously noted, “It may pass through your neighborhood soon.” So, keep an eye out for this splendid symbol of patriotism!

Mark Your Calendars for Fun Family Events

In addition to the patriotic exuberance, Chattanooga folks have plenty to look forward to. McDonald Farm, located at 16705 Coulterville Road in Sale Creek, is hosting Magic Movie Nights on Oct. 17 and 18 from 5:30-11 p.m.. The first showing will feature the beloved classic Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone, perfect for families and fans of all ages.

A Creative Showcase

Art enthusiasts will have their chance to catch a unique demonstration on Saturday, Oct. 19. The In-Town Gallery will highlight the work of talented artist Margaret Park, who will showcase her skills in the encaustic painting technique. This ancient artist’s medium uses heated wax to create vibrant and textured art pieces, just waiting for you to explore.

Traffic Alert for Festival Enthusiasts

Lastly, if you plan to attend local festivities, the Chattanooga Division of Transportation has announced several upcoming road closures related to the Chattanooga Motorcar Festival. So, be sure to check local announcements and plan your travel accordingly.
