Hazlewood Secures Key Police Endorsement in State House Campaign

EAST RIDGE—The International Brotherhood of Police Officers (IBPO) Local #673 expressed staunch support for State Representative Patsy Hazlewood in her re-election campaign for the District 27 seat in the Tennessee House of Representatives. The announcement was made official on Friday, July 12, 2024.

Key Endorsements for Hazlewood

This latest endorsement adds to a list of notable public safety figures who have thrown their support behind Hazlewood. Previously, current Hamilton County District Attorney Coty Wamp, Hamilton County Sheriff Austin Garrett, and retired Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond also endorsed Hazlewood.

Law Enforcement Support

Commenting on their union’s endorsement, Joseph Ogg, president of IBPO Local 673 and a law enforcement officer with the Chattanooga Police Department, highlighted Hazlewood’s legislative achievements.

“Patsy Hazlewood’s track record in the Tennessee General Assembly demonstrates a deep commitment to public safety,” said Ogg. “Through her policies and initiatives, she has shown a profound understanding of the resources and support necessary for law enforcement to effectively fulfill their duties.”

Influential Legislation

Ogg particularly lauded the legislation Hazlewood had sponsored, such as the Back The Blue Act and the Chris Wright Act. These pieces of legislation not only enhanced protections for law enforcement officers but also ensured that serial offenders receive appropriate penalties.

The Protect Tennessee Minors Act of 2024 and Hazlewood’s advocacy for Marsy’s Law highlight her unwavering commitment towards ensuring the safety of all Tennesseans, especially the children and victims of violence.

Humbled by the Support

On receiving the endorsement, State Representative Patsy Hazlewood expressed her gratitude. “I am humbled, grateful, and proud to receive the endorsement of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers,” Hazlewood commented. She pledged to continue working with law enforcement to pass laws that empower officers, combat illegal immigration, keep criminals off the streets, and enhance community safety.
