Chattanooga Public Library (CPL) is all set to host an exclusive exhibit, Path to the Presidency, focusing on over 100 years of history of presidential campaign memorabilia. The Robert L. Golden Institute of Art & History is presenting the display, while CPL’s Local History and Genealogy Department will host it.
The prestigious downtown library will inaugurate the exhibit on June 3, 2024, inviting the public to a grand opening reception on June 7. The event, to be held from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm in the library’s 1st floor auditorium, will include a talk by Matt Adams, the curator of the exhibit and President and Chairman of Robert L. Golden Institute.
The Path to the Presidency exhibit offers an immersive journey through the history of the American presidency, highlighting every significant campaign trail development from the announcement speech to the inauguration day. The array effectively illustrates each stage of the election process, letting the audience witness firsthand the democratic process’s nuances.
The exhibit includes a host of original artifacts borrowed from both CPL and the Robert L. Golden Institute’s collections. Head Librarian Jessica Sedgwick emphasized that the installation brings the democratic process to life, with several interactive stations allowing visitors to create their own campaign buttons, cast symbolic ballots, and even pose behind the iconic presidential podium on a mock inauguration day.
The exhibition comes at an opportune time during an election year, providing a unique platform for people to explore and understand American democracy better. Sedgwick insisted that it is a magnificent opportunity to host the exhibit during such a critical phase, encouraging public interaction and awareness about the US election process.
Starting June 3, the exhibit will grace the library till August 2, 2024, and will be available for the public to view during the usual business hours of CPL from Monday to Saturday. Everybody, irrespective of age, is welcome to explore this integral part of American politics.
