Sponsor Our ArticlesRed Bank has been awarded a $21,000 grant from the Red Bank Soddy Daisy Charitable Foundation to enhance public art and community programs. The funding, derived from former hospital sales, aims to support city-wide art installations and engaging activities for all ages, including a mural at the Red Bank Kids Club Park and new initiatives for active older adults. Additionally, plans for a new playground and ongoing community projects highlight the city’s commitment to improving the quality of life for residents.
In exciting news for the folks of Red Bank, a generous grant of $21,000 has just been awarded to the city as part of the yearly charitable support from the Red Bank Soddy Daisy Charitable Foundation! This grant intention is to enhance public art and boost community programs, making life in this vibrant city a little more colorful and fun.
You might wonder where these funds come from. The money is generated through the interest on the sales of the former Red Bank Community Hospital. Each year, both Red Bank and Soddy Daisy receive friendly support from this fund, ensuring that everyone gets a piece of the pie!
To keep things cheerful and beneficial to the majority of citizens, the grant comes with some guidelines. To qualify, the city’s proposals must serve the greater community rather than just a select few. Red Bank took this mission to heart and is excited to unveil two fantastic public art installations that will surely brighten everyone’s day.
First up, the city commissioners have decided to allocate $7,000 for a vibrant mural at the Red Bank Kids Club Park, located at 3817 Redding Road. This fun mural will cover all four sides of the park’s restroom facility, transforming it into a lively focal point for kids and families. Ten talented artists submitted their designs for this project, and the Red Bank Public Art Advisory Board has chosen the amazing Adam Stephenson to bring the mural to life.
And hold on; there’s more! A second mural is already in the planning stages for a retaining wall along Morrison Springs Road, which will add even more charm to the area.
But that’s not all—Red Bank believes in keeping its community active, especially for its older residents. The Active Older Adults Program will soon kick off two new engaging activities. One will be an exciting partnership with the University of Tennessee Chattanooga Music Therapy Department, while the other will be a weekly Bingo event, taking place every Thursday at noon. What a fun way to mingle and make new friends!
In the latest fiscal dealings, the city has amended its budget for 2025 to include unbudgeted expenditures, notably a $20,000 fee for hiring a Chief Financial Officer. This role was initially filled through the Robert Half agency, ensuring the city’s financial matters are in capable hands.
Also, there has been a significant change to the Red Bank Beer Ordinance, making it easier for vendors to secure a single license for selling beer at multiple city-sponsored events throughout the year. Cheers to that!
Exciting things are happening, including the inauguration of a new playground right beside the community center! A lively ribbon-cutting ceremony is slated for March 18. Grab your kids, and come celebrate this fabulous addition to the neighborhood!
Meanwhile, on the same day as the commission meeting, a pre-proposal site visit was held by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the upcoming Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project. This is just one aspect of ongoing efforts to beautify Red Bank, which have impressed many with a stunning total of $1,070,627 in funding since the foundation was established in 1991.
The city is also eligible for an additional grant from T-Mobile, which rewards public arts projects for cities with populations under 50,000. This could mean more exciting projects are on the horizon, including a special “Traffic Garden” for teaching children and new cyclists about road safety. A memo of understanding has been signed with the White Oak Bicycle Co-op to facilitate this innovative initiative.
Community engagement is at an all-time high! Volunteers recently launched the Red Bank Day of Services, collecting a jaw-dropping 3,000 pounds of trash—now that’s a team effort! And if you want to roll up your sleeves, you can participate in the fourth annual Weed Wrangle on March 1, aimed at removing invasive plants and enhancing local greenery.
With so much happening in Red Bank, it’s a joy to see the community come together for art, fun, and valuable initiatives. Stay tuned for more updates because this city is just getting started!
