Red Bank’s Exciting Developments and Holiday Schedule Updates!
Attention, Red Bank residents! The latest commission meeting has wrapped up, and there’s a lot happening around our lovely city. City Manager Martin Grannum took center stage to fill us in on the many projects underway and some important schedule changes to note as the holiday season approaches.
Holiday Schedule Adjustments
Let’s get right to it! Mark your calendars, because the first commission meeting of the new year has been canceled! Instead, you’ll want to join us at the next meeting on the third Tuesday, January 21, 2025. And don’t forget that City Hall will be closed on December 24 and 25 for Christmas celebrations, followed by the New Year’s break on January 31, and a day off for Martin Luther King Day on January 20. So, keep this in mind as you plan your visits to city offices!
Thriving Development Projects
Now, let’s dive into some of the exciting projects in the pipeline. The city is tapping into the ARPA funds (that’s the American Rescue Plan Act for those unacquainted) to support a contract addendum with Barge Design Solutions. The total amount for these professional services related to the current public works building is not expected to exceed $97,200. What’s more, this deal encompasses cleaning up property lines, performing title work, putting together a site development plan, and carrying out an environmental assessment on the existing public works structure. Sounds like some crucial work to make sure we have a thriving public space!
Making Meetings More Efficient
In an effort to streamline the operation during city commission meetings, a few changes have been made to the Red Bank city code regarding the order of business. These amendments are meant to help increase the efficiency of time during meetings. One particular improvement is the new consent agenda portion, which allows the commission to vote on routine matters with just a single vote. This means less waiting around and more productive discussions—how great is that?
Community Celebrations and Support
In good news for our brave firefighters, a resolution was passed to accept the 2024 Firefighting Support Grant amounting to $1,000 from Tennessee American Water Company. This kind of support is invaluable for keeping our community safe!
Red Bank Cemetery Citizens Advisory Board Update
On a community board note, the Red Bank Cemetery Citizens Advisory Board has recently filled a new spot. Freddie Hanner has been appointed, rounding out the board to its full capacity! It’s wonderful to see community members volunteering their time to ensure our local heritage is preserved.

In other news, an assistant district attorney has decided not to prosecute any Collegedale Police officers involved in an incident from a Tennessee football game on November 2, regarding two young girls who were seated ahead. It looks like that situation will not lead to further actions.
Heritage Center Expansion
Finally, some exciting news from the Charles H. Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center, which has successfully purchased the property next to the Aquarium where its museum resides. Previously a rental, this acquisition marks an important step in securing the center’s future in our community.
