Remembering Kenny Dixon: A Legacy of Service, Love, and Community

Remembering Kenny Dixon: A Life of Service and Love

Chattanooga, Tennessee, is a city that holds many memories and stories of its residents, and one such story is that of Kenneth “Kenny” Edward Dixon, who passed away peacefully at home on October 9, 2024. Kenny was 66 years old, and his life was a beautiful blend of adventure, service, and deep connections with family and friends.

A Chattanooga Native

Kenny was born right here in Chattanooga on October 10, 1957, to the late Robert Lee Dixon and Sarah “Betsy” Elizabeth Tanner. Growing up in this vibrant city, he developed a passion for life that would carry him through various adventures. After he graduated from Red Bank High School in 1976, he made a significant decision that would shape his future.

Serving His Country

Kenny joined the United States Army, where he served as a paratrooper in the Corps of Engineers. Achieving the rank of Captain, he not only showcased his dedication to service but also his bravery. His time in the Army was filled with experiences that enriched his life’s tapestry.

Life Beyond the Military

After his military service, Kenny didn’t just settle into a quiet routine. Instead, he embarked on a journey of home renovations and rural homesteading in Salisbury, North Carolina. His talent for fixing things became well-known, as he could truly repair just about anything. Whether it was a leaky faucet or an outdated room, Kenny’s gift for home improvement made him a local hero of sorts.

A Family Man

Kenny was not only known for his skills, but he was also cherished as a wonderful son, brother, father, and friend. He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Emily Ramos, his caring mother, Betsy Tanner, and a supportive family that includes his brother, Bob Dixon, and sister, Beth Trippe. Kenny was also an uncle to many treasured nieces and nephews, which filled his life with joy.

Memorial and Celebration of Life

The community will have the opportunity to honor Kenny during a funeral service at Chattanooga National Cemetery on October 18 at 1 p.m. Following the funeral, a Celebration of Life will be held at his home on the same day at 5 p.m. All family and friends are encouraged to attend this gathering, a chance for everyone to share their memories and the love they had for Kenny. His home address is 3152 Waterfront Dr., Chattanooga, TN 37419.

Remembering Others Lost

Kenny wasn’t the only soul to leave us recently. In our community, we also mourn the loss of Carla Dionne Gordon, 51, who passed away on October 5 in a local hospital. She was dedicated to her studies at the Orange Grove Center and was a beloved member of Orchard Park SDA Church.

Another heartfelt goodbye goes to Monteen Smith, 87, who passed on the same day as Kenny. A graduate of the Baroness Erlanger School of Nursing, Monteen was a beacon of care in our community.

Lastly, we remember Marian Louise Johnson-Byrd, a devoted sister and cherished friend, who passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy of kindness in the Stanley Methodist Church. Each of these individuals touched the lives of many, and their memories will live on in the hearts of those they loved.

Final Thoughts

Kenny’s life is a reminder of the importance of family, community, and service. As we remember him and others we’ve lost, let’s hold on to the memories and love that bind us together. Please feel free to share your thoughts and memories about Kenny on the Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel website; your stories will certainly bring comfort to his family.
