CHATTANOOGA, TN – Myra Yvonne Rivers, a beloved member of the Chattanooga community, was remembered by many this week for her kind spirit and remarkable contributions to the society. Born on August 6, 1964, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, she succumbed to a prolonged illness on March 1, 2024.

Early Life and Career

Myra Rivers was the daughter of Jonathan Peavy and Jo-Ann Taylor. Her early education took place at Chattanooga Central High School, where she exhibited leadership qualities through her active participation in the JROTC. She was also a part of the drill team and chorus, demonstrating a dedication to extracurricular activities that was to follow her throughout her life. Myra’s faith was an integral part of her life as she devoted her life to the Lord in her teenage years and joined the St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church.

Professionally, Myra built her career around hospitality, dedicating her skills to various companies over the years. to various companies over the years. She most recently worked for The Marriott Courtyard and The Westin hotels, where she was loved and appreciated by both coworkers and guests.

A Beloved Figure

Myra was known for her hobbies that included listening to music, singing karaoke, and writing poetry. She was an avid crafter and a regular at local thrift stores. Her love for old TV shows and Hallmark movies was well-known among her family and friends. A noted sweet potato pie baker, she was generous in sharing her delicious bakes, bringing joy to those around her.

Throughout her life, Myra’s kindness was a guiding light, touching many lives. She was selfless and always willing to assist those in need. Above all, she cherished time spent with family, especially her grandchildren.

A Dearly Missed Presence

She was preceded in death by her son, Nicholas Peavy; grandmother, Flister Taylor, and her father, Jonathan Peavy. Myra’s memory will be preserved by her parents, James and JoAnn Harris (Rossville, GA); daughter, Brittany (Larry, Jr.) Maddox (East Ridge, TN) and a host of siblings, a nephew, a niece, and several other relatives and friends.

The public viewing is scheduled to be held from 9-11 a.m. on Monday, March 4, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service at the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
