In an exciting partnership with local transport body CARTA, the Chattanooga Public Library’s “Make. Play. Read. Learn.” program is launching Ride & Read bus passes. Aimed at K-12th graders who enroll in the summer reading challenge, these passes promise to turn summer into an adventure of books and city exploration.
From Saturday, June 1 through Saturday, July 20, the library will host its annual summer reading challenge. As part of the initiative to support child literacy and continued education throughout the summer, the library will offer Ride & Read bus passes. With these passes, not only can children ride to the library for free, but they also have unlimited access to rides throughout the city. This gives them the freedom to explore, learn, and grow, all while enhancing their love for reading.
The initiative encourages participants to familiarize themselves with CARTA’s routes and schedules, turning every bus ride into a new adventure. Whether they are exploring different sections of the library or various parts of the city, the Ride & Read pass ensures students have accessible and free transportation.
The bus passes will be available at all library branches beginning Monday, May 27. Valid from the start of the challenge until Wednesday, July 31, these passes aim to fuel a summer of learning and exploration. Most importantly, for children in K-5th grades, the passes also ensure fare for one accompanying adult, ensuring their safety and comfort.
The Chattanooga Public Library and CARTA’s partnership clearly demonstrates a strong commitment to fostering a love for reading and learning among local children. By breaking down transportation barriers, the initiative is set to give more children access to the wealth of resources available at the public library. Ultimately, it is steps like these that contribute to the creating of an educated, well-rounded, and culturally aware future generation.
