Attention, drivers! If you’re planning to hit the road on I-75 in Hamilton County, Tennessee, you should be aware of some roadwork that will affect your travel plans. Starting Monday evening, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is rolling into action with nightly roadblocks that are expected to last until Thursday morning.
From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, TDOT will be implementing rolling roadblocks to allow a contractor to replace those high-tech overhead Dynamic Message Signs (DMS). This work will be taking place on I-75 southbound at mile marker 13.7 and northbound at mile marker 10.2. Although the work is scheduled to be done at night while many are sound asleep, if you happen to be out on the roads, expect to see some slower-moving traffic.
In addition to the rolling roadblocks, some ramps in the area will experience temporary closures. This might mean you have to take an alternate route, so keep that in mind as you’re planning your journey. Traffic will not be completely at a standstill, but moving through the area during these times may be a little more tedious than usual.
If Mother Nature decides to put a damper on things with inclement weather—or if any unforeseen circumstances arise—TDOT has indicated that it may have to push the work to a later date. So, if you see clouds gathering or hear a weather report talking about rain, it might be worth checking ahead to see if the roadwork schedule changes.
To keep the flow of traffic as smooth as possible during this time, police officers will be present to assist with traffic control. So while things might be a little more congested than usual, rest assured that there are got folks on the scene to help guide you through it.
For the best experience, try to plan your travels around these hours if possible. Leave a little earlier or later than you normally would to avoid being caught in the midst of construction, and keep in mind that patience is key during roadwork times. Those flashing road signs may be temporarily out of service, but they’re in place for your safety.
In the meantime, relax, enjoy the drive, and take in the scenic views that Tennessee has to offer. Whether you are a local commuting to work or a visitor exploring the area, it’s always a good idea to stay informed and prepared.
Stay tuned for more updates from TDOT or other local traffic advisories as the week unfolds. It’s always a good idea to check for any last-minute changes that might affect your route. And as always, drive safe out there!
