Chattanooga’s Salvation Army Commences National Salvation Army Week

The Salvation Army of Chattanooga has initiated the celebration of National Salvation Army Week starting from Monday, May 13. This week-long festivity, continuing till May 19, emphasizes the significant history, services, and community impact of the organization.

The annual celebration of National Salvation Army Week, established since 1954, was brought to light by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He hailed The Salvation Army’s fundamental role in bettering the country and urged every American to back its mission of aiding the underprivileged. A quote from President Eisenhower’s 1954 declaration beautifully encapsulates the essence of The Salvation Army:

“Among Americans, The Salvation Army has long been a symbol of wholehearted dedication to the cause of human brotherhood. In time of war, the men and women of this organization have brought to those serving their country far from home, friendliness and warm concern. In the quieter days of peace, their work has been a constant reminder to us all that each of us is neighbour and kin to all Americans. Giving freely of themselves, the men and women of The Salvation Army have won the respect of us all.”

The Salvation Army of Chattanooga proudly stands with this incredible organization, pledged to create a positive difference in the community. Over the previous year, the Salvation Army branch aided 3,909 individuals and families through its various programs and services. The emergency assistance program alone supported 1,289 people through utility and housing help.

Furthermore, the organization reached out to 5,600 children, presenting them Christmas toys and gifts under its Angel Tree program.

An Emphasis on Community Work, History, and Impact

Douglas McClure, area commander of The Salvation Army in Chattanooga, expressed, “We are excited to kick off National Salvation Army Week and celebrate the organization’s rich history, services, and impact in our community.” He thanked the volunteers, donors, and stakeholders for their yearly support, stating their crucial role in making a difference in society.

Mirroring their appreciative sentiments, The Salvation Army of Chattanooga has planned a series of events and activities during the National Salvation Army Week. This includes a Lunch and Learn event scheduled on Tuesday, May 14, at 11:30 a.m. at 1019 N. Moore Road in Chattanooga.

Lunch and Learn Event

The one-hour lunch and presentation session will shed light on The Salvation Army’s programs serving disadvantaged and unhoused neighbours. The organization cordially invites interested community members to the event to better understand its services. It will be a great opportunity to learn as to how one can contribute towards these commendable services.
